UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB F. STOFFLET, OF ALLENTOWN, AND ALFRED S. SEAMAN, OF FRAOKVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
WATER-COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,391. dated May 4, .1886.
Application tiled November 17, 1885.v Serial No.183,115. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JACOB F. STOEFLET, of Allentown, in the county of Lehigh, and ALFRED S. SEAMAN, residing at Frackville, in the county of Schuylkill, and State of Pennsylvania, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WaterCoolers, and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or gures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the under side of cover. Fig. 3 is a top view. Fig. 4 is aperspective view of outer casing. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the inner case.
Our invention has relation to water-coolers; and it consists iu the novel construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the main vessel,whicl1 is of stoneware, earthenware, or other suitable material, and is provided near its bottom with a spigot, B. This vessel A is provided` near its upper edge with an interior ledge or seat, C, which supports an auxiliary vessel, D, provided with a bail, F, by which to lift it from place and replace it when necessary. The auxiliary vessel is of the same or similar material to that of which the main vessel is composed, and this auxiliary vessel D is provided with a perforated bottom, E, over` which bottom a layer of iiannel or cloth is placed, and upon this flannel or cloth a iilter of charcoal or other material is built. This auxiliary vessel is provided with a bail, F, which may `is in place.
be closed down within said auxiliary vessel when the latter is in place in the main vessel, and this bail is pivoted slightly to one side of the middle line of the auxiliary vessel,to permit the bail to be thus closed down.
The auxiliary vessel D is 'provided with a lid or cover, H, of stone or other material similar to the material of which the body of the vessel is constructed.
The outside shell, I, is made of paper or paper-board, is open at the bottom, and is provided with a notch or recess, K, which iits over the spigot B when the paper shell or cover The paper cover is a nonconductor of heat and cold, and preserves the ice in the cooler.
This combined filter and cooler is cheap and prevents the ice from melting rapidly.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The improved water-cooler described, consisting of the main vessel A, provided with the interior ledge and the spigot, the inner auxiliary Vessel having the external annular liange to engage the ledge of the vessel A, and provided with a perforated bottom, the folding bail attached to the auxiliary vessel, as set forth, the removable lid adapted to close both the main vessel and auxiliary vessel, and the paper shell or cover inclosing the whole and provided with an open bottom and aslot, K, to receive the spigot, substantially as specifled.
In testimony whereof we aiiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses:
SAMUEL FRAGE, JACOB G. RODRUAN.
