Description
Nov. 26, 1968 H. BERTOLINA 3,413,043
EXTENSION ATTACHMENT FOR BRUSHES AND THE LIKE Filed Feb. 16, 1966 Ill/VE'IV TOR HUGO L. BERTOL MIA 5) 2 ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,413,043 EXTENSION ATTACHMENT FOR BRUSHES AND THE LIKE Hugo L. Bertolina, 438 32nd Ave., San Francisco, Calif. 94121 Filed Feb. 16, 1966, Ser. No. 527,958 1 Claim. (Cl. 306-3) This invention relates to an extension attachment for brushes and the like.
The primary object of this invention is to provide an extension attachment particularly for utensils, which have a handle with a hole therethrough, such as paint brushes and the like, which extension attachment can be easily secured to the end of a paint roller pole, or broom handle, or mop handle, or other handle rod or bar having a threaded attachment end, and which attachment is adapted to clamp the perforated handle of the utensil and hold it securely in selected angular positions, so as to paint or reach with the utensil hard to reach corners, sides or ledges or the like.
I am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the several devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction thereof without departing from the scope of the present invention as set forth in the following specification, and as defined in the following claims; hence I do not limit my invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the said device and parts as described in the said specification, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be made manifest in the following detailed description, reference is had to the accompanying drawings for the illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a plan view partly in section of the extension attachment.
FIG. 2 is a side view of the same.
FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view, the section being taken on line 33 of FIG. 1.
The illustrative embodiment of the invention includes a ferrule 1 with an axial threaded socket 2 to fit over the threaded end of a handle bar 3.
The closed end 4 of the ferrule 1 is transversely flattened to form an axially extended fiat clamp flange 6. On a fiat side of the flange 6 are a plurality of substantially pyramidal projections 7 arranged around a threaded bolt 8, which latter is suitably fixed in a hole 9 through the flat flange 6.
A washer 9, also provided with engagement projections, is clamped by a wing nut 11 over the usual handle 12 of ice a brush 13 or of similar utensil. The brush handle 12 has a hole 14 through which said bolt 8 extends.
In operation the handle 12 of the brush 13 is placed over the bolt 8 and turned to the desired angular position or direction on the bolt 8, then washer 9 is placed on the bolt 8 over the handle 12 and the wing nut 11 is screwed on and tightened on the bolt -8 so as to clamp the brush handle 12 and secure the brush 13 in the desired attitude.
The extension attachment herein described can be used to hold paint brushes, as well as other similar utensils, such asputty knives, scrapers, wire brushes and the like. If the handle of the utensil has no hole therethrough, such hole can be readily drilled to adapt it for use with the herein described attachment.
I claim:
1. An extension attachment for holding a brush handle with a hole therethrough on a handle bar, comprising (a) a ferrule having an axial threaded socket in one end thereof attachable to said handle bar, the other end of said ferrule being closed,
(b) a transversely flattened portion formed integrally with and in axial extension of said closed end,
(c) a plurality of substantially pyramidal projections projecting fro ma face of said flattened portion for engaging one side of said brush handle,
(d) a bolt non-rotatably held in said flattened portion and extending generally in the same direction as said pyramidal projections and through the hole of said brush handle,
(e) and means threadedon said bolt for engaging the other side of said brush handle for clamping said brush handle against said flattened portion,
(f) a washer on the bolt,
(g) grip projections projecting from the face of said washer toward said flattened portion for engaging the adjacent side of said brush handle,
(h) and a nut on the bolt adjacent said washer for pressing said washer against said brush handle thereby to penetrate said pyramidal projections and said grip projections into the opposite sides of said brush 'handle.
