This invention relates to a holder device and more specifically to a cosmetic holder device.

An object of this invention is to provide a novel and improved article holder device, of simple and inexpensive construction, for holding cosmetic articles such as tooth cleaners and the like, which is of compact construction, enabling the device to be easily carried upon the person of the user.

A more specific object of this invention is to provide a novel and improved holder device including an elongate cylindrical article holder portion for effectively holding a cosmetic article such as a tooth cleaner or the like, and having a handle portion shaped and contoured to very nicely accommodate and be gripped between the finger and thumb of a user during application of the cosmetic article.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will more fully appear from the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein like character reference refers to the same or similar parts throughout the several views, and in which:

FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic view illustrating one manner of use of the novel article holder device,

FIG. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of the article holder device,

FIG. 3 is a side view on the same scale as FIG. 2, partly in section and partly in elevation to illustrate the various relationships of the components thereof, and

FIG. 4 is a bottom plan view of the invention.

Referring now to the drawings it will be seen that one embodiment of the holder device, designated generally by the reference numeral 10, is thereshown. This article holder device is preferably constructed of a suitable rigid plastic material and includes an article holder portion 11 which as seen is of elongate tubular construction and which has a cylindrical recess 12 formed in one end portion thereof. This cylindrical recess 12 receives a cosmetic article therein which as shown comprises a tubular yieldable resilient tooth cleaner 13 having the respective ends 14 thereof oppositely beveled or inclined. It will be noted that the tooth cleaner projects longitudinally from the recessed end of article holder portion 11.

A handle portion 15 is integrally formed with one end of the article holder portion 11 and it will be noted that this end portion flares outwardly and downwardly and progressively increases in its width dimension. To this end, it will be noted that the longitudinal side edges of 3,409,928 Patce ntted Nov. 12 19 68 I 2 the handle portion divergerelatively sharply as at 16 and terminate in lower edge portions 17 which are disposed almost in .parallel relationshipwith respect to each other and with the longitudinal axis of the article holder portion. 11. These longitudinal edge portions 16 and 17 have a uniform thickness dimension which corresponds substantially to the exterior diameter of the article holder portion 11.

The handle portion 15 has opposed finger gripping surfaces 18 which, as. [best seen in FIG. 4, are concave, the greatest point of .concavitycorresponding substantially to the longitudinal axis of the article holder device 10.v Each of the finger gripping surfaces '18 has a plurality ,of longitudinally extendingrib elements 19 formed thereon which facilitate gripping of the hand portion by auser. To this end it is pointed, out, that-the finger gripping surface 18 will be gripped between the finger and thumb of a user, these surfaces being shaped and contoured to very nicely accommodate the finger and thumb so that the cosmetic article, such as the tooth cleaner 13, may be effectively applied.

A cover member 20 is provided and includes a lower cylindrical portion 21 and an upper conical portion 22 which are integrally formed together and are preferably formed of the same rigid plastic material as the article holder and handle portions of the article holder device. To this end it is pointed out that the entire article holder device including the cover member 20 is preferably formed in a molding operation in a manner well known in the art.

The inner diameter of the cylindrical portion 21 of the cover member 20 is of a size to receive the upper end of the article holder portion 11 therein. The overall longitudinal dimension of the cover member 20 also accommodates the cosmetic article such as the tooth cleaner 13 therein when the cover is positioned in place as illustrated in FIG. 3. The inner surface of the conical portion 22 frictionally engages the upper end portion of the tooth cleaner 13, as best seen in FIG. 3, and this cooperative action prevents the cover 22 from being inadvertently disengaged from the article holder portion 11. As pointed out above the tooth cleaner 13 is formed of a yieldable material which facilitates this frictional inner engagement of the cover member therewith.

The tooth cleaner article 13 is formed of a suitable resilient material, preferably rubber, having a dental abrasive such as pumice stone impregnated therein. This tooth article is formed through an extrusion and baking process and this tooth cleaner cosmetic article is highly effective in the removal of undesirable stains from the surface of teeth. The bevel surface thereof permits the effective application of the same to the surface of a .users teeth and the unique construction of the article holder device 10 permits the user to very comfortably but efficiently apply the tooth cleaner to his teeth. The handle portion 15 while being of a size to be firmly and positively gripped between the finger and thumb of a user, is also of sufficient compactness so as not to interfere with the application of the cosmetic article.

It will, therefore, be seen that not only is the article holder device of simple and inexpensive construction but this cosmetic article holder device functions in a more efficient manner than any heretofore known comparable device.

It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the various parts without departing from the scope of my invention.

What I claim is:
