UNITED STATES PATENT Urrrca.
MARIETTA FLINT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOUQUET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,569, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed August 24, 1885.
To all whom it may-concern:
Be it known that I, MARIET'IA FLINT, of the city, county, and State of New York.have invented a new and Improved Bouquet-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a device to be worn upon the person for holding and preserving natural flowers; and the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new and improved flower holding and preserving device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same.
A represents the body of the receiver, made of ornamental design and of any suitable size and material-glass, hard rubber, celluloid, or other material. In the cavity B of the receiver is, by preference, placed the sponge G, or other absorbent, which is formed with the cavity 1), to receive and partially inclose the lower ends of the stems of the flowers when placed in the device. The receiver A is, by preference, permanently closed at its lower end. At its open end it is provided with the. holder D, in the tube d of which the stems of the flowers are to be placed. The holderD is flanged at d, to closely fit the open end of the receiver A, but not to fit so tightly but what it may be removed for cleaning the receiver and replacing the sponge or other absorbent O. The tube cl is made of a length equal to about one-half the depth of the receiver A, and is of much less diameter than the cavity of the receiver, so as to form an annular space, f, between the outer surface of the tube and the Serial No. 175,210. (No model) end of the receiver is secured the keeper or hook h, in which the pin E may be placed to secure the device upon a garment. V
In use the receiver A is simply to be filled or partially filled with water and attached to the garment, and the stems of the flowers to be worn are simply to be placed in the tube (1. where they will be held with the lower ends of the stems submerged in water. The sponge 0, having the cavity 11, will partially inclose the stems, and, being wet, will moisten the stems of the flowers and assist in preserving them, and by the use of the sponge only a small quantity of water is needed in the receiver.
By this device natural flowers may be worn upon the hat, or bonnet, or other garment for a long time without fading, and there is no danger of water escap ng from the receiver to Soil any garment of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a bouquet-holder consisting of a receiver, A, provided with the cavity B, and the holder D,
fitting into the upper end of the cavity B, and
provided with the depending tube (1, of less diameter than the cavity, and extending to a point at or near the center thereof, the sides of the tube being imperforate, substantially as set forth.
