Description

(No Model.)
H. H. FULTON.
LATHING.
Patented Feb. 16, 1886.
A 1 /Zl W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARMON H. FULTON, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
LA THlNG.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,517, dated February 16, 1886.
Application filed January 7, 1856. Serial No. 1818 73. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARMON H. FULTON, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lat-hing, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates to that class of wooden laths which are made by forming beveled edges on thick portions, which run down to thin portions; and it consists in forming such thick and thin portions of separate and independent pieces of board, rather than in grooving out thick pieces of board to form the bevel and depression, and thus wasting the lumber, as has been heretofore done.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure l is a transverse section of a series of boards formed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the thin portions or boards of a slightly different construction.
In said drawings, the portions marked A represent the thick portions or boards;-B, the thin portions or boards, and C the studding, to which the lathing is secured. The thick portions A are simply ordinary pieces of board with the edges beveled one reversely to the other. The thin portionsB are similar to the thick portions, except in thickness; orthey may, instead, be just simply thin portions of board with the ordinary straight edges, as shown in Fig. 2.
As will be readily understood, this system of lathing is a great saving in lumber over that wherein the whole lath is made of thick lumber, as in such cases a considerable portion of the lumber must necessarily be cut out and wasted, while in my invention there is no waste whatever, all the lumber being utilized.
As will also be readily understood, my improved lathing can be made with ordinary saws, and thus avoid the expense of special machinery, which has been necessary to manu facture the bevel-edged lathing heretofore produeed.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As a new article of manufacture, lathing consisting of boards having reversely-beveled edges and thinner boards interposed between
