(Cl. 36-9) This invention relates in general to shoe construction, and in particular to a new and useful shoe having a fabric sole with fabric foxing, and to a method of making the same.

The present invention particularly relates to a shoe construction which includes an upper lasted to the underface -of an insole, and which includes an outsole made of a fabric with a filler in between. Heretofore, when a shoe included an outsole rnade of fabric or twisted cords or a knitted or woven fabric of hemp, it was usual to include a fabric foxing made of twisted hemp ber which was attached to extend from the lower end of the upper to the side face of the sole. It is very diflicult, however, to attach the fabric sole to the filler and to the fabric foxing. It is particularly diicult to attach fabric sole to the fabric foxing and it is easily detached. In addition, the shoe construction is not very durable.

In accordance with the lpresent invention, however, there is provided a shoe with a fabric sole which is particularly useful because of its anti-slipping and noiseless characteristics and which includes a rubber foxing which is interposed between an outer fabric foxing and the fabric sole. In a preferred construction, the shoe includes an upper which is lasted to an insole and a ller is attached to the underface of the insole. A rubber outer sole is then secured over the filler and a fabric sole is secured to the rubber outer sole. A feature of the construction is that rubber foxing is provided which extends from the lower portion of the upper and is secured partially to the rubber outer sole around the marginal edges thereof and also to the marginal edges of the fabric outer sole. A fabric foxing is then applied over the rubber foxing.

Accordingly, it is an object of the invention toV provide an improved shoe construction having a fabric sole with a rubber foxing employed which is secured to the lower portion of the upper and to the marginal edge of the fabric sole, and further with a fabric foxing arranged over the exterior of the 4rubber foxing.

A further object of the invention is to provide a shoe which is simple in design, rugged in construction and economical to manufacture.

The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed -out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this specification. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its use, reference should be had to the accompanying drawing `and descriptive matter in which there is illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of the invention.

Referring to the drawing in particular, the shoe construction in accordance with the invention comprises an upper 1 which is lasted to the underside of an insole 2. A filler 3 is attached to the bottom of the insole and located between the ends of the upper, and a rubber sole 4 is applied over the bottom ends of the upper and the ller.

In accordance with the invention, a fabric sole 5 forming an outsole or tread is made by knitting or weaving the cords of hemp material is secured below the filler, leaving marginal edges of the rubber sole 4 exposed on each side of the shoe. A rubber foxing a is secured to the lower portion of the upper and extends below the bottom of the shoe and is secured over the exposed marginal area of the rubber sole 4 and over a marginal area of the fabric sole 5. A fabric foxing 6, made by knitting or weaving cords of hemp material, is then secured over the rubber foxing a, as indicated. The rubber foxing a provides a medium for the adhesion for the purposes of attaching the upper 1, the sole 4, the fabric sole 5, and the fabric foxing 6. In this manner, the adhesion can be completed easily and securely and the shoe can be fabricated efliciently. The fabric sole and the fabric foxing a do not easily become detached from the shoe as in the prior constructions, and the sh-oe has a good appearance and good durability. In addition, the color pattern of the fabric foxing 6 can be selected without changing the pattern mold or composition of rubber which was necessary in the conventional rubber foxing. The fabric foxing can be applied over the rubber foxing in order to provide a good appearance. The shoe is effective to prevent slipping due to the fabric sole 5, and it is preferable as an indoor footwear, but, of course, may be employed outdoors also.

While a specific embodiment of the invention has been shown and described in detail to illustrate the application of the inventive principles, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise without departing from such principles.

What is claimed is:

1. A shoe construction comprising an insole, an upper lasted to said insole, a fabric sole forming a bottom exposed tread connected to said insole and said upper, a rubber foxing connected to the lower margin of said upper and to said fabric sole, and a fabric foxing disposed over at least a portion of said rubber foxing.

2. A shoe construction comprising an upper, an insole lasted to said upper, a filler secured to said insole, a rubber outer sole secured over said filler in marginal areas of said upper, a fabric sole of lesser Width than said rubber sole secured to said rubber sole leaving an exposed margin of said rubber sole, a rubber foxing secured to the lower portion Aof said upper, to the eX- posed margin of said rubber sole, and to a marginal area of said fabric sole, and a fabric foxing disposed over at least a portion of said rubber foxing.

Claims (1)

1. A SHOE CONSTRUCTION COMPRISING AN INSOLE, AN UPPER LASTED TO SAID INSOLE, A FABRIC SOLE FORMING A BOTTOM EXPOSED TREAD CONNECTED TO SAID INSOLE AND SAID UPPER, A RUBBER FOXING CONNECTED TO THE LOWER MARGIN OF SAID UPPER AND TO SAID FABRIC SOLE, AND A FABRIC FOXING DISPOSED OVER AT LEAST A PORTION OF SAID RUBBER FOXING.
