UNrTED STATES GEORGE XV. SANFORD, OF THOMASTO ATENT OFFICE..
N, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO THOMAS A. GOTREL, OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,198, dated January l2, 1886.
Application tiled April 29, 1885. Serial No. 163,857. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SANFORD, of Thomaston, in the county of Litcheld and State of Connecticut, have invented certain 5 new and useful Improvements in Sweat-Scrapers for Horses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to My invention relates to an improvement in sweat-scrapers for horses.
It'is a wellknown -fact that when horses have been driven hard and fast a large amount of sweat and foam accumulates on the surface of a horse, and drying leaves the hair in a rough and uncouth condition, and at the same time greatly endangers the health of the horse, owing to the dampness created thereby 2o being allowed to remain on the surface of the skin.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, durable, and efficient scraper, by means of which the sweat, foam, and loose hairs can 25 be conveniently and effectively removed from the body of the horse by simply rubbing the scraper over the horse.
Vith these ends in view my invention consists in certain features of construction and 3o combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, .and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a View in perspective of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof.
A represents a flexible strip or band of rubber, of any desired thickness and length, the
' E, formed in one end of the handle F, and to which it is secured in any suitable manner.
lf preferred, one of the metallic strips may be 4 5 dispensed with, and the remaining strip can be secured to the band by means of a suitable rivet or in various other we1l-known ways.
It will be observed that ascraper constructed as described can be made in any desired 5o shape, as will be found most convenient in use. A scraper of this character is also very economical in construction, as the saine consists of but few parts, which may be readily put together.
Having fully described my inventiou,What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, asweat-scraper for horses, consisting, essentially, of a han- 6o die, two curved metallic strips secured at one end within said handle, and a flexible strip secured between the metallic strips and following the contour thereof, substantially as set forth. 65
In testimony whereof I have signed this speciiication in the presence oftWo subscribing witnesses.
' GEORGE W. SANFORD.
