Description

July 25, 1967 WALKER 3,332,769
RIDING SKATE Filed Oct. 15, 1965 INVENTOR Allan M Walker United States Patent "we ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A two-wheeled vehicle, including a rear and front wheel supported on axles carried on the lower ends of a vertical frame and a vertical front frame, a horizontal seat and a horizontal foot platform secured to the rear frame, the front ends of the seat and foot platform being pivotally secured to the front frame, and the front frame having handlebars and relatively wide apart spread vertical beams, the lower ends of which serve as rests to maintain the vehicle upright when at a standstill.
This invention relates to various skating and riding devices for children and teen-agers, and more particularly a riding skate.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a riding skate which is considerably safer to use than the conventional roller skates or skate boards.
Another object of this invention is to provide a riding skate which is easy to use and requires virtually no maintenance.
Another object of this invention is to provide a riding skate which is capable of combining the thrill of bicycle riding with the sounds of roller skating.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a riding skate which is inexpensive to manufacturer and lower in cost to the user.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
The drawing is t-he sole view of this invention.
According to this invention a riding skate is provided with a front wheel of the ball-bearing type, which front wheel 11 is mounted on axle 12. On each end of axle 12 there are vertically disposed front supports 13, bottom ends of which are provided with semi-circular metallic bands 21 which are adapted to firmly support the ends of axles 12. Wheel 11 is also of ball-bearing type and is supported on axle 12 which is also provided with bands 21 which connect said axle to vertically extending rear supports 14. A horizontal plank 18 is disposed between 3,332,700 Patented July 25, 1967 front supports 13 and attached thereto in a normal manner. A horizontally positioned seat 17 is mounted on the top portions of rear supports 14, and the front portion of seat 17 is connected to plank 18 by means of a pivot 20. Horizontal plank 16 is located and secured between vertical front supports. A horizontal support 15 is located on plank 16 and secured thereto by means of pivot 20. The other end of horizontal support 15 is secured to the vertical rear supports by any normal means in the art. Handle bar 19 is mounted on vertical front supports 13 and is adapted to steer front wheel 11 by means of pivots 20. Horizontal support 15 serves as a foot rest for the user of the riding skate 10.
Looking now at the drawing, one will see that handle bar 19 steers riding skate 10 in any desired direction. The riding skate 10 is operated by the user with one foot on the foot rest and horizontal support 15 using the other foot to push himself along on a hard surface, such as, a street. After the riding skate 10 is in motion both feet may be placed on foot rest or vertical support 15.
What I now claim is:
A riding skate, comprising a front wheel and a rear Wheel, said front Wheel being supported upon a relatively longer front shaft, said rear Wheel being supported upon a relatively shorter shaft, said wheel being at a mid-portion of said shaft, a vertical upstanding rear frame secured at its lower end upon said rear shaft, a vertical upstanding front frame secured at its lower end upon the ends of said front shaft, a horizontal seat and a horizontal foot platform rigidly secured at their rear ends to said rear frame, pivot means at the front ends of said horizontal seat and said horizontal foot platform and pivot means being pivotably secured to said front frame, and said front frame comprising a pair of vertically extending, relatively far apart beams having a transverse extending handle bar across the ends thereof, a pair of cross-beams between said vertical beams to engage said pivot means of said seat and head platform, and the lower ends of said front frame beams serving as rests to support said riding skate in a relatively upright manner when at rest.
