Description
G. JASSATH. Calfbridge-Box.`
Patented Sept 177 ISGL Inventor.' y M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
G. .IASSATIL OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
iNIPROVEIViENT IN CARTRIDGE-BOXES.
To @ZZ whom t may con/cern:
Be it known that I, G..IASSATH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cartridge-Box; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making apart of this speciiicatiomin which- Figure lis a front View ot' my invention in an open state; Fig. 2, a transverse vertical section of the saine in a'closed stategr m, Fig. 1, indicating the plane of section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
The object of this invention is to construct the cartridge-box in such a manner that it may be readily'lled with cartridges and the latter readily withdrawn from the box when desired for use.
The invention consistsin having a box constructed of sheet metal or otherproper material provided'with a lid and inserted within a box of leather or other proper material, the first-mentioned box having aseries of inclined tubes to receive thecartridges, as hereinafter fully described.
To enable those 4skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represents a box,4 which may be of sheet metal and of quadrilateral form, provided at its front orouter side with a lid B, which is hinged or jointed to the box at its upper end, as shown at a. The lid B extends down nearl37 the whole depth of the box, so that when the lid is opened the interior of the box will be nearly all exposed. The boxA has a series of sheet-metal tubes b fitted within it in an inclined position, the outer ends of the Iin Fig. l.
the box A in an inclined position two importubes b being considerably higher than the inner ends, as shown clearly in Fig. 2.
The tubes b are made of such diameter that they will receive the cartridges, the tubes being arranged in rows side by side, as shown By havingthe tubes b secured in tant results are attained-to wit, the obtaining of tubes b of requisite length within a box A comparatively narrow or of moderate width, and the ready filling ot' the tubes with the cartridges and the withdrawal lof the same from the tubes with facility either by the wearer or the one behind him in the ranks. When the lid B is raised, all the cartridges are fully exposed and very accessible.
The boxAis inclosed within abox C, which may be of leather, having a ap c, which projectsdown in front ot lid B and is secured to a button d at the bottom of box C. The box C is fitted to the wearer in the usual manner. The box A eectually protects the cartridges from dampness, while the leather box C protects the box A.
I do not claim, broadly, a cartridge-box constructed of two boxes, one being fitted Within the other; but
I do claim as new and desire to secure by Lett-ers Patent as an improved article of manufacture A cartridge-box formed of a box A, provided with a series of inclined tubes b and fitted within an outer or external box C, all arranged substantially as shown and described.
G. JASSATH.
