Description
(N0 Modem H FELLOW$- SWING. No. 330,306. Patented Nov. 10, 1885.
WITNESSES INVENTOR I ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY FELLOWS, OF WIOHITA, KANSAS.
SWING.
$PECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,306, dated November 10, 1885.
.1 Application filed July 3, 1885. Serial No. 170,582.
To all 227mm, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY FELLows, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wichita, in the county ofSedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swings; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the acconipanying drawing, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The drawing is a representation of this invention, and is a perspective View.
My invention relates to-swings; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the wood, about twelve feet long and one inch thick and four inches wide. These suspenders B B are hung to supports B secured to a cross-bar or other suitable beam, and are secured to said supports by half-inch bolts B B.
The seat A is rigidly fastened between the suspenders B B about seventeen inches from their lower ends.
0 G designate two arms fastened to the lower ends of the suspenders and held rigidly in place by braces 0 running forward from the suspenders to the elbow. The fore arms, 0 O, are pivoted to the forward end of the shoulderarms by bolts, and are movable.
D is the foot-board,which is fastened'to the upper faces of the foot-arms at their outer ends.
(No model.)
F F are two stationary arms, which are secured by bolts to the outer faces of the supports B B and these stationary arms extend downward and back at an angle of about fortyfive degrees.
E E are two cords fastened at their tops to the outer ends of the stationary arms F F, about twelve inches from the suspenders. The lower ends of the cords E E are provided with snap-hooks H, and are passed through holes 11 in the foot-board, near its ends, and fastened to staples on the under side of the foot-board, making the latter adjustable relatively to the seat to suit the occupant of the swing.
I am aware that it is not new to provide a swing with a hinged pedal and connect the outer portion of the pedal with fixed devices at the upper end of the frame by means of a rod or cord, whereby the said pedal may be adjusted with relation to the seat, and therefore do not claim such devices, broadly.
Having described niyinventiomwhatlclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the support and the suspenders, of the inclined arms F F, the seat having the hinged pedal-arms connected by the footboard having staples on its under face, and the ropes E E, connected at their upper ends to the inclined arms F F, and provided at their lower ends with snap-hooks, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY FELLOWS.
