CAR-TRUCK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,679. dated October 20,1885.

Application filed March 31, 1885. Serial No. 160,770.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THoMAs W. HoGsE'r'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Edray, in the county of Pocahontas and State of IVest Virginia, have invented a neW and useful Improvement in Oar-Trucks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. My invention relates to an improvement in car-trucks5 and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of devices, that will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2is an end View of the same.

A represents a cartruck, which may be of any preferred construction.

B represents the wheels, and D the track.

E represents vertical rods, the upper ends of which are bent at right angles and secured to the sides of the truck on the outer sides thereof. Brace-,rods F are bolted to the truck and to the rods E, and secure said rodsErigidly in place. The rods E and the brace-rods F form brackets, and on the lower ends of the rods E are journaled the rollers G. These rollers have each the upper reduced portion, g, that bears against the outer edge of the head (No model.)

of the rail, and the lower ange, g', that bears against the outer side of the shank of the rail o below the head, as shown. These bearingrollers prevent the possibility of the trucks jumping the track, and thus insure the safety of the passengers and goods that are being transported. 3 5

Having thus described my invention, I claim- The car-truck, in combination with the vertical rods E, having their upper ends secured to the sides of the truck, inclined brace-rods 4o F on each side of the vertical rods, and vertical rollers G, journaled in thelower ends ofthe rods E, said rollers having the reduced cylindrical portion g working against the outer sides of the heads of the rails, and the lower 45 annular ilanged portion, g', for bearing against the shanks of the rails directly under the heads thereof, as set forth.
