Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. PARSHALL, JR, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
LUBRICATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,336, dated October 13, 1885.
Application filed March 31, 1885.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. PARSHALL, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The figure of the drawing is a view partly in section.
This invention has relation to a class of lubricators which are designed to be attached to the steanrpipe or stea'nrchest of a steamengine, and wherein the oil is fed by displacement consequent upon the condensation of the steam; and the invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, all as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter A designates the oil-reservoir,directly over which is placed the sight-feed chamber B, which is below the condenser 0. These parts are all in direct communication, the water from the condenser being designed to descend into the oil-chamber below, while the oil rises from its reservoir upward through a passage, 6, which is independent of the passage through which water descends into the oilreservoir to displace the oil and cause it to rise.
At thelower end of the condensingchamber is the valve-seat a, and F is the screw-stem of the valve b, which is designed to engage said valve-seat in closing the condenser. By the adjustment of the valve b the flow of water of condensation is regulated, and the effect of the pulsations of steam modified, so as to preserve the form of the oil-drops in the sightfeed chamber. This valve also serves to close the condenser and preserve the water therein Serial No. 160,815. (No model.)
feed chamber, and the condenser together and to prevent'the packing around the glass of the sight-feed chamber from working loose.
In the body or casting H are formed the in dependent passages e and g, the former being continued upward by the dischargenipple h, and being designed for the passage of oil. The passage 9 is the one whereby the water descends into the oil-reservoir.
I is the valve which serves to regulate or close the oil-passage e, and J the valve for the I water-passage 9.
hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In a lubricator, the combination of a steamcondenser having the threaded part c, I
the double-passage valveseat H below said chamber and above the oil-reservoir, the metallic frame G, having its lower end engaging the threaded portion d, the sight-feed chamber, and the locking-nuts K K, substantially as specified.
2. In a lubricator, the combination, with the steam-condenser, and the sight-feed chamber located below the same, of the doublepassage valveseat H below said chamber and above the oil-reservoir, and the lock-nuts above and below the sight-feed chamber, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
