Description

NOV. 1, 1966 B, N, LEE 3,281,938
MARKING DEVICE FOR THE GARMENT TRADES, ETC.
Filed June 5. 1965 L: 15 I ,5- H H I I fiat I INVENTOR. BOB NAKAYAMA LEE ITTOBNEY United States Patent 3,281,938 MARKING DEVICE FOR THE GARMENT TRADES, ETC. Bob Nakayama Lee, 1616 78th St., Brooklyn, N.Y. Filed June 3, 1965, Ser. No. 466,359 1 Claim. (Cl. 30365) This application is a continuation-in-part of my copending application, Serial No. 437,640.
Thus, this invention pertains to new and useful improvements in marking tools of the parallel wheel type, and may be termed a parawheel.
The said tool will prove of great value to the garment industry for use by pattern makers, dressmakers, and others for tracing, and at the same time will provide distinct measurements.
Thus this invention may be used by pattern graders for setting off markings or regulation spaces and for enlarging patterns to desired measurements.
The invention will naturally be of great use to dressmakers, and for any work which requires the marking of distinct parallel lines.
The invention is constructed to make parallel lines, whether they be curved or straight lines, and at the same time transfer said lines by penetrating the original through the conventional means.
The said invention has two parallel wheels; .and the lines they make are, therefore, always parallel to each other.
The wheels which are interchangeable could have a gear wheel with pointed teeth for penetrating or marking purposes.
The said wheels may also be hollow and filled with absorbent material or ink for marking without perforations.
The invention may be operated by turning a control knob, whereby the distance between the two wheels may be adjusted to the desired measurement indicated on a scale.
The scale is arranged in such a way that the different measurements may be read while turning the control knob.
In operation, a slight pressure is exerted upon the tool in pushing this forward along the style lines.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of my invention; and
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational View of same.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral indicates a marking tool, as described, comprising a bifurcated member 11 mounted in a handle 12, said member being made with flexible arms 13, 13 adapted to per- 3,281,938 Patented Nov. 1, 1966 mit adjustment of the distance between the latter during operation.
Parallel wheels 14, 14 are turnably arranged at the upper ends of the flexible arms 13, 13; a bar 15 provided with right and left hand threads at the respective ends thereof, is turnably mounted between said arms and is adapted, by the cooperation of the thread-s on said bar with mating internal threads in circular openings in said arms, to effect an increase or decrease in the distance between said arms; such increase or decrease being effected by turning control disc 16, which is rigidly mounted on said bar; while a scale 17 attached to one of said arms, at the upper end thereof, indicates the distance between the arms, and, thereby, the distance there will be between the markings created by the said wheels when the marking tool is used.
As shown in FIGURE 1, the arms 13 13 possess the novel features of construction of being formed with enlarged rounded bends 20, 20 which, in contradistinction to the arms shown in my co-pending application, permit of more flexibility and incidentally an easier operation of the device.
Further, in order to offset the weakening of the arms 13, 13, due to the wear and tear of the threads in the latter, caused by the sliding movements of the bar 15 therein, solid nuts 21, 21 with threads similar and corresponding to those in said arms, have been integrally secured to the latter, thereby strengthening the same and increasing the longevity of said arms.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the construction and arrangements of the several .parts shown and described herein without departing from the spirit of the invention, and therefore I do not wish to confine myself as to the disclosure described and shown herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A marking tool comprising an elongated member including bifurcations at one end and elongated shank portions at the other end, enlarged rounded bends joining the bifurcations to the shank portions for imparting flexibility thereto, said bifurcations comprising arms terminating in marking members, threaded nuts integrally secured to said arms, the arms having threaded openings corresponding to and communicating with the threaded openings of the nuts, and a threaded bar in cooperative engagement with said nuts for adjusting the distance between said arms.
