To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. CocnRANn, of HarpersFerry, in the county of J efferson and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harvesters; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the figures and letters of reference marked thereon.
My presentiuvention relates to certain novel and improved means for attaching or connecting the frame carrying the platform and cutting mechanism to the main frame of a grainbinder; and it consists, generally, in certain novel details of construction, which I will first describe, and then point out particularly in the claims at the end of this speciiication.
In the accompanying drawings, which are designed to illustrate one form in which my said invention may be applied, Figure 1 is a plan View of the machine showing in dotted lines the platform in position for transportation. though, as will be readily understood, my invention, as hereinafter described and claimed, may be as well applied to the two-wheel type.

The means for accbmplishing this are many and obvious, and in the drawings I have illustrated a form of joint adequate for the purpose. It consists, essentially, of the two brackets or castings, F F', the one, F, provided with flanges ff, to receive the end of the rear sill, a, and the eyes a', to receive the pivot, and the other, F', provided with iianges ff to iit, and embrace the ends of the timbers e e of the main frame, and having the long tubular socket a3, the latter fitting between the eyes a of the bracket F. The brackets F F' being applied and secured to the timbers a and e c, when the parts are brought together with the socket a3 between the eyes a', they are united, and the platform is firmly secured upon and jointed to the main frame by a vertical bolt, b, passed through the eyes and socket, as shown. If the machine to which my invention is applied has the reel mounted upon the platform, then, of course, it will swing back with the latter; but when, as shown in the drawings, the reel is supported wholly upon the main frame, in order that it maybe swung backward, I mount the reel-support upon a pivoted base. Thus, as shown 1n the drawings,'the board T', upon which the reel-supports are mounted, is pivotally secured by the bolt whichforms the rear pivot of the platform, and the same bolt which effects the locking of the vfront coupling, also secured to the front end of reel'and platform have been swung clear of the main frame.
In practice it is desirable that the connee tion between the pitman and cutter should be of such a construction as will permit them to be easily separated or uncoupled. It may also be found desirable, under certain circumstances, to provide means for applying a detachable caster-wheel at or near the front inner corner of the platform,when the latter is swung in rear of the main frame, to assist the grain- 5o -Wheel in supporting the platform and balancthe machine, substantially as described.
2. In a harvester, and in combination with the main frame thereof, a platform and reelstandard pivoted to the main frame and adapted to be swung in rear thereof, substantially as described.
