Patented Sept. 1, 1885.
INVENTOH WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DONALD MOLELLAN, OF VOODSTOOK, ONTARIO, CANADA.
MOP-HEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,261, dated September 1885- Applicaticn filed October 11, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DONALD MCLELLAN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at \Voodstock, in the county of Oxford and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Mop- Heads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mop heads; and its objects are, first, to facilitate the insertion and removal of the mopping material; second, to secure the material firmly in position, and, third, to accomplish these ends with simplicity of structure. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a mop-head einbodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the curved wire lever. Fig. 3 is a side view of the mop-head, and Fig. 4. is a front view thereof having the spring removed.
Similar designations indicate corresponding parts in the views.
To an ordinary handle, A, a hollow cap, H,
(ModcL) Patented in Canada February 11, 185 5, No. 21.071.
is secured by any means, as by a nail or pin, K. This cap is pyramidal in shape, and has a hook, G, and an arm, M, which terminates in a grooved cross-head, B G. Lugs ff also project radially from this cap near its base. Upon inserting suitable mopping material in the space L N and passing the curved wire spring B O D E thereover, so that the hole G will receive the hook G, and passing the legs D E over the lugs ff, said material will be firmly held, and can easily be replaced when worn.
That I claim is- In a mop-head, the tapering cap H, provided with a hook, G, and grooved cross-head B O, in combination with the wire B G D E, curved as shown and described, pinsff, radially proj ecting from said cap near its base, and handle A, for the purpose set forth.
DONALD MOLELLAN.
