. J. A. STEINBAOH.
GOAL BUCKET. I No. 324,427. Patented Aug. 18, 1885.
wm'vzssg v I dew A 93l/vl/g/vml? Z fz I 9 By Aftorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A; STEINBAOH, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOSEPH STEINBAOH, OF SAME PLACE.
COAL-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,427, dated August 18, 1885.
Application filed January 23, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN A. STEINBAOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in thecounty of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Coal-Buckets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
which will enable others skilled in the art tom which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
1 My invention relates to improvements in coal-buckets; and it consists of .a sliding bottom, the object being to fill stove-magazines with coal or coke, so as to prevent the usual di'rtthat is produced when filling the same with the ordinary coal-bucket. I attain the object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the improved coalbucket, with a portion cut away to exhibit the 2 interior rim. Fig. 2 is a top view of the interior rim. Fig. 3 is a top view of the bottom (No model.)
F is a catch to hold the lid closed. On the inner surface of the body, near the bottom, is riveted the circular flange or rim 0. Immediately beneath this rim the body is slotted one-half its diameter, and into this slot is inserted the sliding bottom B. The outline of said bottom is circular. The inner portion or semicircle is less in diameter and fills the interior of the vessel. Theouter half is of a greater diameter, and into its edge is fastened a wire which stiffens the same, and a loop at its center forms a handle.
The rim serves the double purpose-that of stiffening the body and protecting the sliding bottom.
In filling the magazine of a stove, the filled bucket is set within the end of the magazine, and the sliding bottom is withdrawn, and the contents are deposited therein without any of the material falling over the stove or floor.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is The circular sliding bottom B, with an inner semicircularedge, and an outer semicircular edge of greater diameter, wired, with a loop for a handle, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my ownI afiix mysignature in presence of 65 two witnesses.
JOHN A. STEINBA-GH.
