(Cl. 139-370) The invention relates to weaving looms wherein the weft thread derived from stationary bobbins disposed externally of the cloth is inserted in the shed with the aid of pincer needles, tapes or belts equipped with gripping members, gripper shuttles, or other insertion means. The invention relates more particularly to weaving looms comprising two inserting means, one of which is for delivery and the other for drawing, which carry out opposite movement.
In such systems for the insertion of the weft thread, work is preferably done with a multiplicity of different sorts of weft threads or with a multiplicity of weft threads of different colours. It is then necessary to introduce the weft thread to be inserted, after the selection thereof and after supplying it to the inserting member, during the commencement of the insertion action on the input side, into a member providing for the guiding of the weft yarn during the entire duration of the insertion operation relatively to the moving sley, in such manner that it can be inserted in the open shed without contacting the selvedge warp threads. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide a supervising device which will stop the weaving loom in the case of a rupture of the weft yarn. In certain known designs, the members for the guiding of the weft thread are so designed and arranged as to serve also as members for supervising the said yarn, i.e. as a weft stop-motion and possibly as a member for verifying the correct tension of the yarn.
The weaving loom according to the invention, which is equipped in known manner with a device for guiding and supervising the weft thread inserted in the shed and obtained from stationary bobbins disposed externally of the cloth, is characterised in that the said guiding and supervising device comprises a receiving member which is movable on the sley and which embraces and guides the weft yarn during the insertion procedure.
In an especially advantageous embodiment of the invention, the receiving member is pivoting and is pivoted, for the purpose of embracing the weft thread to be inserted, into the path thereof as soon as the inserting means, for example the delivery inserting means, has gripped the weft thread to be inserted and has commenced the insertion thereof in the shed. The pivoting angle and the pivoting time of the moving receiving member are preferably adjustable.
The guiding and supervision of the weft thread in course of insertion are generally effected on the input side, immediately before the warp threads of the selvedge where the guiding and supervising receiving member is mounted. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the receiving member serving for the guiding and supervision of the warp yarn to be inserted is pivotally mounted on the sley, preferably on the sley sword, in such manner as to be adjustable in the direction of insertion of the weft, the said guiding and supervising receiving member then carrying out a reciprocating movement with the sley so as to be pivoted towards the exterior during the sley stroke and then to be returned into the path of the weft yarn. In this manner, the weft yarn, as it is embraced by the receiving member, is entrained rearwardly on the input side, during the return of the sley, this being done in an advantageous manner and under supervision for rupture or inadequate tension.
Advantageously, the mobile and preferably pivoting receiving member comprises one or more receiving hooks having for example the form of fingers and the purpose of which it is to embrace and then to guide the weft thread to be inserted and it furthermore comprises a moving feeler member having for example the form of a finger, or some other suitable supervising member the purpose of which it is constantly to detect possible fracture in the weft thread in course of insertion.
The device according to the invention has furthermore the advantage that all the sensitive electro-mechanical elements can be disposed in a closed housing, in such manner as to be protected against dust and fluff. A pivoting movement is imparted to the housing itself by a control device the functioning of which can be adjusted in time and space, in such manner that the device can be adapted to the individual movements of the inserting members which insert the weft.
The invention will be more readily understood on reading the following description and on examining the accompanying drawings which show, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention and wherein:
FIGURE 1 shows the device according to the invention in side elevational view and at the moment of clamping the weft thread or weft pick;
FIGURE 2 is a plan view of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 corresponds to FIGURE 1 and shows the device according to the invention during the insertion of the weft;
FIGURE 4 is a plan view of FIGURE 3;
FIGURE 5 shows, drawn to a larger scale, the guiding and supervising members of the device according to the invention, partially in section;
FIGURE 6 is a section taken substantially along the line VIVI of FIGURE 5; and
FIGURE 7 is a section taken substantially along the line VIIVII of FIGURE 5, and showing the contact device and the electrical wiring.
Referring to FIGURES 1 to 4, a contact-containing housing 8 is pivotally mounted on the sword 10 of the sley of the loom. The said housing comprises guiding members which guide and supervise the weft yarn 15 inserted by the inserting means 13. According to FIG- URES 1 and 3, a cam 2 which is angularly adjustable is mounted on a shaft 1. The cam 2 controls, through the agency of a roller 3, a lever 4 which is pivotally mounted at 5. The lever 4 is urged by a spring 6 against the profile of the cam 2. From the lever 4, a pull rod 7 transmits the pivoting movement of the said lever to the housing 8 articulated on a pivot 9, the said housing serving as a receiving member the purpose of which it is to embrace the weft thread and being provided with guiding which guide and supervise the yarn or thread to be inserted. The pivot 9 is fast on the sword 10 of the sley to which a pivoting movement about the pivot 11 is imparted in known manner by a control means (not shown). By exchanging or displacing the cam 2, it is possible to modify and adjust the pivoting angle and the pivoting time of the housing 8 serving as a receiving member.
As illustrated in FIGURES l and 2, the housing 8 and its guiding and supervising members occupy, during the beat-up by the reed 12 of the weft thread just inserted, an uppermost first position in which the housing 8 and its guiding and supervising members are at a level higher than the path of travel of the weft thread to be next inserted and are in a position not to interfere with the beat-up.
When the inserting means 13 has secured the weft thread 15 selected by the control assembly 14, the housing 8 pivots from its uppermost first position with its receiving and guiding hooks 17, in the direction of the fabric 16 and in the path of travel of the secured weft thread (FIGURES 3 and 4) in such a manner that the weft thread 15 is embraced by the receiving and guiding hooks 17 and guided, during the entire insertion period, in a pre-determined position relatively to the moving sley. After the end of the insertion movement, the housing 8 moves from this lowermost second position into its initial uppermost first position and the guide hooks 17 free the weft yarn 15 for the working step (FIGURES 1 and 2).
According to FIGURES to 7, a feeler member 18, which is displaceable in the housing 8, is disposed between the guide hooks 17. The feeler member 18 has the function of supervising the weft thread during the insertion thereof and of closing, in the case of a fracture of the weft thread and with the aid of a contact bridge 19, a circuit which immediately stops the weaving loom. For this purpose, the feeler member 18 is insulated from the housing 8. During the insertion of the weft thread, the feeler 18 is applied, under a slight and adjustable degree of tension produced by a spring 20, against the weft thread 15 which is stretched during its insertion. In the case of a fracture of the weft thread, the spring 20 pivots the feeler member 18 about its axis in such manner as to close the stopping circuit acting through the agency of the contact bridge 19, through intermediary of two control rods 21, subjected to the action of springs (FIG- URE 5). The control rods 21 are connected to two segments of collecting rings or bars 22 disposed externally of the pivoting housing 8 and insulated therefrom, the said segments providing the electrical contact with the stopping circuit (FIGURES 5 to 7).
According to FIGURE 7, the electrical connection with the segments 22 is effected by carbon brushes 27 mounted on the sword 10 of the sley. The current is provided by a transformer 23 and flows, through intermediary of a relay 24 and an end of travel switch 26 controlled by a cam the shape of which corresponds to the duration of insertion of the weft yarn, to the brushes 27 and to the collecting segments 22. In the case of a fracture of the weft thread, a current flows in the relay 24. This produces, in known manner, the closure or opening of further circuits providing for the halting of the weaving loom and permitting the repair of the fractured weft yarn. In the embodiment according to FIG- URE 7, a circuit 28 controlling the electric brake, and a circuit 30 controlling signal lamps are connected to the relay 24.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described and illustrated; it would be possible to make numerous modifications without thereby exceeding the scope of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a fabric loom including a sley and movable means engaging and pulling a Weft thread for inserting it into the shed; a device for guiding said weft thread during its insertion into the shed, said device comprising at least one guide hook mounted on the sley and extending in the direction of the fell of the fabric being woven, said guide hook being movable on the sley between an uppermost position wherein it is at a level higher than that of the weft thread to be guided, and a lowermost position wherein it embraces and holds the weft thread as it is inserted into the shed and means connected with said guide hook and moving it between said positions in conformity with the movement of said movable means to cause said guide hook to embrace said Weft thread after it has been engaged and pulled by said movable means.
2. In a fabric loom including a sley, a device for guiding weft threads during their insertion into the shed, said device comprising a housing, means supporting said housing on the sley for pivotal movement between first and second operative positions, a pair of guide hooks connected with said housing, said guide hooks extending in the direction of the fell of the fabric being woven and at a level higher than that of the weft thread to be guided when said housing is in its first operative position, said guide hooks embracing and holding the weft thread as it is inserted in the shed when said housing is pivoted to its second operative position, an elongated feeler pivoted intermediate its ends in said housing, one end of said feeler extending outwardly of said housing and between said guide hooks for engaging the Weft thread embraced by said guide hooks, the other end of said feeler extending inwardly of said housing, resilient means connected with said feeler and urging it into contact with the weft thread, a contact bridge connected with said other end of said feeler, a pair of contacts supported in said housing, and control circuit means for controlling the operation of the loom connected with said pair of contacts, said resilient means swinging said feeler if the weft thread breaks whereby said contact bridge bridges said pair of contacts energizing said control circuit means.
3. A device in accordance with claim 2 wherein said control circuit means includes arcuate conductor segments carried in said housing and electrically connected with said pair of contacts.

Claims (1)
1. IN A FABRIC LOOM INLCUDING A SLEY AND MOVABLE MEANS ENGAGING AND PULLING A WEFT THREAD FOR INSERTING IT INTO THE SHED; A DEVICE FOR GUIDING SAID WEFT THREAD DURING ITS INSERTION INTO THE SHED, SAID DEVICE COMPRISING AT LEAST ONE GUIDE HOOK MOUNTED ON THE SLEY AND EXTENDING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE FELL OF THE FABRIC BEING WOVEN, SAID GUIDE HOOK BEING MOVABLE ON THE SLEY BETWEEN AN UPPERMOST POSITION WHEREIN IT IS AT A LEVEL HIGHER THAN THAT OF THE WEFT THREAD TO BE GUIDED, AND A LOWERMOST POSITION WHEREIN IT EMBRACES AND HOLDS THE WEFT THREAD AS IT IS INSERTED INTO THE SHED AND MEANS CONNECTED WITH SAID GUIDE HOOK AND MOVING IT BETWEEN SAID POSITIONS IN CONFORMITY WITH THE MOVEMENT OF SAID MOVABLE MEANS TO CAUSE SAID GUIDE HOOK TO EMBRACE SAID WEFT THREAD AFTER IT HAS BEEN ENGAGED AND PULLED BY SAID MOVABLE MEANS.
