UNITED STATES PATENT Erica.
DAVID WALLACE AND JAMES DARGUS, OF ROCKTON, ILLINOIS.
TONGUE-SUPPORT 'FOR HARVESTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,471, dated August 4, 1885,
Application filed November 3, 1884. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, DAVID VALLAOE and J anus Dances, citizens of the United States, residing at Rockton, in the county of \Vinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harvesting Machine-Tongue Supports, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to that class of harvestingniachine and vehicle tongue supports which are intended to remain in position whether the harvesting-machine or vehicle is in use or not, but may be removed at pleasure.
The objects of our invention are, first, to relieve teams drawing harvesting-machines from bearing upon their necks the combined weight of the tongues and forward parts of such machine; second, to furnish a light, cheap, and convenient device for supporting the tongues of harvestingmachines and other wheeled vehicles while in use; third, to diminish the rocking motion of harvesting-machines while in operation. We attain these objects by means of the mechanism shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a view of a side elevation of our invention attached to a section of I a harvestinganachine tongue. Fig. 2 reprel sents a view of a rear elevation of the same.
Snnilar letters refer to similar parts of the two views.
A represents a port-ion of a harvesting-machine tongue, to which thehanger Bis secured by the bolts 0.
D represents a caster-wheel; E, its stein; F, a spiral spring coiled around the latter; GG', washers serving, respectively, as rest and follower to the spiral spring F; G a washer serving as a rest for the pin H; I, the revolving axle of the caster-wheel D.
The weight of the tongue A and of the forward parts of the harvesting-machine, (not shown,) to which it is attached, rests continually upon the ground, immediately beneath the caster-wheel I), while the spiral spring F furnishes to the tongue A and the forward parts of the harvesting;-machine, (not shown.) to which it is attached, an intermediate elastic adjustable. support.
hat we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the hanger B, of the stem E, wheel D, washers G G G, tongue A, and pin H, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the tongue A, of hanger B, bolts 0, caster-wheel D, stem E, spiral spring F, washers G G Gfland pin H, substantially as described.
DAVID \VALLACE.
JAMES DARCUS.
