JACOB RING, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO ROSALIE RING AND HATTIE LEE POWELL, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
SNOW-CUTTING AND TRACK-SWEEPING ATTACHMENT FOR RAILWAYLARS.
:lPE-GEFICATIQN forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 322,323, dated July 14-, 1885.
Application filed September 22, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: i Be it known that I, JACOB RING, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a I new and useful Snow-Cutting and Track- Sweeping Attachment for Railway-Oars, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a provision for attachment to street-cars and other railway vef hicles for automatic removal of snow and other i obstructions from the track. I
The provision consists, essentially, of two track-clearers of identical construction, one being secured in front of each front wheel in close proximity to the respective rails. This track-clearer comprises asnow plow or cutter of iron or steel, which has fastened to its rear a stout broom or besom, as hereinafter particularly described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of part of a street-car provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a front View, and Fig. 3 is a rear View, of the track-clearer. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4.
A may represent a portion of a street-car platform or floor, and B one of the forward wheels resting on a customary track-rail or tram, C. i
Projecting downward fromthe under side of the platform are two beams, lugs, or flanges, D, (of which one only is shown,) having one or more holes, d, for reception of one or more bolts,
E, which serve to rigidly attach by its upper part a snow plow or cutter, F, of steel or iron, whose lower extremity or sole may be conformed to the shape of the rail or tram, as shown at f.
M represents a brace that extends obliquely upward from the front of the plow to the beam.
The plow F has at its upper rear part a socket, G, to receive the shaft, helve, or handle H of a stout broom or besom, J, of rattan steel, wire, hickory splints, or other suitable material. This besom is secured at any desired proximity to the track by means of a clamp, K, and is held at its lower part by one or more straps, cross-bars, or keepers, L, that are fastened to the rear of the plow.
I claim as new and of my invention- The track-olearin g attachment for street and other railway vehicles, consisting of the plow or cutter Ff, having the socket G, the clamp K, and one or more keepers, L, in combination with the broom or besom H J, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JACOB RING.
