UNITED STATES PATENT @tirreno IWALTER TWIR'IHS, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
FANCY CARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,668, dated July '7, 1885.
Application filed April 1, 13H5. (No model.) i
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER- XVIRTHs, of Jersey City, in the county ofHudson and Sta-te of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fancy Cards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved fancy card of that class used for Christmas, Easter, birthday, and similar purposes, which card has the appearance of being neatly framed; and the invention consists of a fancy card composed of a foundation-card, a facecard of somewhat smaller sine than the foundationcard, and having a backing of cardboard, and an ornamental edge cord that is attached to the foundation-card and extended around the face-card and its backing.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a front elevation of my improved fancy card. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a double fancy card made according to my improved construction, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line a: af, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a foundation-card of paper, which is made of any suitable size and thickness, according` to the size and character of the card.
On the foundation-card A is mounted a facecard, d, by means of an intermediate backing, Z1, ot' suitable card-board. The backing b and face-card d are of somewhat smaller size than the foundation-card A, so that the latter projects uniformly beyond the edges of the former. Around the edges of the backing and facecard is arranged an ornamental edgecord, e, which has loops e" at the corners of the card, so as to pass conveniently around the corners of the raised face card. The edgecord c is preferably of the same, or nearly the same, thickness as the thickness of the face-v card d and its backing b. The edge-cord c is attached by gluing or otherwise to a foundation card, a. The edge cord forms a neat frame-like border for the face-card, and imparts a neat and attractive appearance to the same.
In cards with two or more face pictures a transverse separating-cord, e2, passes from one cord at one side to the cord at the opposite side, as shown in the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A fancy card consisting of a foundationcard, a face-card, an intermediate backing between the face-card and foundation-card, said backing and face-card being of smaller size than the foundationcard, and an ornamental edge-cord extending around the backing and face card and having -looped corners, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WALTER VIRTHS.
