UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HUTH, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRED J. HEINGARTNER, OF SAME PLACE.
SASH-FASTENIIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,414, dated June 2, 1885.
Application filed December 30, 1884. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN HU'IH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to-the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a detached view of clampinghead for the upper sash.
The present invention has relation to that class of sash-fasteners designed to hold the window at any desired position, and also to securely lock the window either up or down; and its nature consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the window-frame, which is of the ordinary style and form, to which are attached, in the ordinary manner, the sashes B and 0.
To the bottom or lower end of the sash B is attached the socket D,which may be of the form shown, and is for the purpose of securely holding the bottom or lower end of the rod E, the top or upper end of said rod E being securely held by the socket F, secured to the top of the sash B.
A vertical rod, G, is rigidly secured at its upper end to the top of the window-frame, and the lower end of this rod is provided with a socket, H, through which the lower rod, E, is adapted to slide vertically when the lower sash, B, is moved. It will of course be understood that in order to permit this movement of the rod E in the socket H the latter is not attached to any part of the sash B, but
is simply suspended, as it were, from the lower end of the rod'Gr.
To the sash Gis attached the clamping-block 4 5 I, substantially as shown in the drawings. This clampingblock I is provided with the head J, which slides on the rod G. The head J is provided with a threaded portion, which fits in the block I, as. seen in the drawings. The object of providing the threaded portion is to adjust the head J to the rod G in case the parting-rails and the window-sash should vary in thickness. The head J and the socket H are each provided with the set-screws K and K,which are for the purpose of securely holding the sashes B and O in any position desired.
In use the set-screws are loosened and the sash placed in the position desired, when the setscrews are turned tight against the rod.
It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to move each sash independent of the other.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 6 5 Letters Patent, is
The combination of the vertical rod G, secured at its upper end to the window-frame, and provided at its lower end with a socket, H, having a setscrew, K, the vertical rod E, connected at its ends to the lower sash and capable of sliding through the said socket, and a block, I, secured to the upper sash, and hav ing an adjustable head sliding on the upper vertical rod, and provided with a set-screw, K, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN HUTH.
