Description

April 20, 1965 B. GRINGORTEN 3,178,726
SCARF-TOQUES Filed Feb. 11, 1963 MV-M ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,178,726 SCARF-TOQUES Baruch I. Gringorten, 3 Fraserwood Ave., Toronto 19, Ontario, Canada Filed Feb. 11, 1963, Ser. No. 257,407 2 Claims. (Cl. 2-203) My present invention relates to wearing apparel in the form of a scarf-toque combination, and has for its object the creation of a novelty item in this field. It is characterized by providing a scarf terminating at each end in a toque.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a view of the scarf-toque combination in extended form;
FIGURE 2 is a view of a toque turned inside out, showing its mode of construction.
Referring to FIGURE 1, denotes the scarf or muffler proper, of essentially rectangular shape, desirably formed of knitted fabric, and preferably made fairly long, say on the order of from 8 to 10 feet, for reasons which will be apparent hereinafter.
A toque 11 is disposed at one end of the scarf, and a similar toque 12 is disposed at the other end. Desirably the toques are of the same material as the scarf, and may likewise be of the same color and pattern, or the toques may be of one color, and the scarf another. As shown, it is preferred to attach each toque to the scarf by first gathering the end of the scarf proper, as shown by the gather lines 10a, and then attaching such end to the peak of the toque by stitching (not shown).
In forming the toque, a tube of the material may first be made and secured by means of stitching 13, gores may then be cut out at the end of the tube and the cut edges of the gores stitched together, such stitching being shown at 14. Preferably, the outer edge of each toque or cap is turned out or folded to constitute a border, as shown at 15, and the fold formed is kept in place as by said line of stitching 13. Each toque or cap having been thus formed, it is stitched to the gathered end of the scarf, as already described.
In use, the doubly toque-terminated scarf is worn by two persons at the same time. First one person places 3,178,726 Patented Apr. 20, 1965 one toque upon his head, then winds the scarf about the neck one or more times, as desired, following which the second person winds the other end of the scarf one or more times about his neck, and then places the second toque upon his head. Such double use of the scarf will function not only as an article of apparel, but also to promote conviviality between persons of the same or opposite sex. It may also be used by a parent and child to keep the latter from straying. It will also be noted that the material of the scarf, being knitted, preferably fairly loosely, will permit considerable stretching incident to the movement apart of two people joined thereby. Furthermore, the substantial length of the scarf will afford considerable scope to the free movement of each person.
It will be understood that various changes may be made in the construction shown, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a scarf of generally rectangular shape, and of a length sufficient to be wound about the necks of two persons, each end of said scarf terminating in toque adapted to be worn by each person, said ends of said scarf each being gathered, and said toques consisting of a tube having a gathered end, and means attaching the gathered end of the toque to the gathered end of the scarf.
2. In combination, a scarf of generally rectangular shape, and of knitted stretchable material, and of a length suflicient to be wound around the necks of two persons, each end of such scarf terminating in a toque having a peak and adapted to be worn by each person, each of said ends of said scarf being gathered, and means attaching each of the gathered ends to a toque at the peak thereof.
