UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SYLVANUS NORTON, OF SINOLAIRYILLEQNEW YORK.
BRlDLE-BIT.
3PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,442, dated March 3, 1885.
Application filed December 26, 1884. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I, SYLVANUS NORTON, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Sinclairville, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle-Bits, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in bridle-bits, and has for its object to furnish a bit which will hold any horse, no matter how vicious. This object is attained by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a view of the bit and the strap attachedthereto.
The letter A indicates a bit, which may be of any of the ordinary forms of snaffle-bits.
otherwise fastened thereto. A strap, E, extends from the nose-strap D in an upward direction, and is provided with suitable openings, whereby it may be buckled to the crownpiece of the bridle. The overcheck may be attached to rings 0, and thus dispense with nose-piece D.
The nose-piece D and strap E are intended to give greater purchase in holding a horse.
The bit is intended to be attached to the bridle in the ordinary manner.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
In a bridle-bit, the strap E, attached to the central portion of nose-strap D, said strap D having rings 0, loosely fitted to slide over the hinged links of bit B, in combination with rings B, loosely fitted over the hinged links A of the bit A, as described, and for the pur- 5 poses set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SYLVANUS NORTON.
Witnesses: PERRIE G. Woon, JOHN T. DINGLEY.
