BOOK HOLDER AND CARRIER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,021, dated February 24, 1885.

it consists in the novel features of construction,

hereinafter described, whereby an article of superior utility is obtained.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-section of a holder containing our invention. Fig. 2 is a like section, showing the holder in position for use. Fig. 3 is a like sectionofa book used in connection with the holder. Fig. 4 is a side view of the holder in position similar to that shown in Fig. 2.

Similar letters indicate similar parts.

The letters A B designate two books, one

of which is provided with a pocket, 0, on the exterior, opening in the direction of the back thereof, for the reception of one side of the cover of the other book.

The letter D indicates a strap forming the holder proper, the strap being adapted to envelop both of the books A B, as indicated in Fig. 2, and being provided with a clasp or look, E, for retaining it in position.

To that portion of the strap D which is brought opposite to the free edges of the books A B when in use is connected asecond strap,

being inserted in bridges to slide toward and from the main or holder strapinawell-known manner.

At a point intermediate of the ends of the holder-strap D the latter is provided with a leaf, G, which is adapted to enter the pocket 0 of the proper book, so that when the holder is put in place this leaf tends to steady or pre vent it from shifting, thereby keeping the handlestrap in symmetrical and proper position for carrying the books.

It will be seen that by this construction a Very simple, cheap, and convenient holder is obtained.

To do not claim in this application a construction ofbooks herein shown and described, but reserve the right to make such the subjectmatter of a separate application for Letters Patent.

hat we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A book-holder consisting of the strap D,

having the handle F and the steadying-leaf G, substantially as and for the purposes de scribed.
