UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE XV. BRO\VN, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
DRUM-COVER.
fiPECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,804; dated February 24, 1885.
.-.\ pplieatinn filed Apr-i115, 158 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BROWN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved DrunrGover, of which the following is full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists of a cover for drums, more especially designed for protecting the drum in stormy weather, a ring or other suitable means being provided for holding the cover in close proximity to the drum-head, so that the cover will notinterfere with the heat ing of the drum.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which the figure is a sectional elevation of a snare-drum having my invention applied thereto.
A represents the cover, and B represents the ring which fits within the rim a, forholding the cover A down close to the head I) of the drum 0, so that the beating of the drum may be upon the cover A. The ring B may be separate from or attached to the cover. as may be desired. The cover A is by preference made of black india-rubber cloth, and in the shape of a bag adapted to be drawn over the drum and secured by the draw-string c, and besides being used to protect the drum, being made of black material, it serves as a mourning drapery for the drum. \Vhen used for the latter purpose, the cover may be put on the drum in reverse position from that shown in the drawingthat is, so that the drawingstring a will come over the beatinghead 0, instead of over the snare-head b, and a space or opening will be left in drawing up the string 0, through which the drum maybe beaten directly upon the head b, as though no cover were on the drum.
This cover furnishes a perfectprotection for the drum in stormy weather, and does not materially interfere with the sound ofthe drum, and it is cheap and durable, and may be quiekly and easily applied, and when'not needed upon the drum it may be folded very compactly, so as to be worn on a belt attached to the body, so that it will always be ready for use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The drunrcover A, adapted to be placed over the drum, in combination with the ring B, for holding the cover in close proximity to the head. I), substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
GEORGE XV. BROWN.
