To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, PHILLIP WEINBERG, LOUIS CLARK, Jr., and EGBERT WINKLER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Seal-Skin Sacque, Dolman, and Ulster Blocks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specificatioinin which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improvement, shown with the half of a sacque upon it. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same, taken through the line 00 a", Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same, taken through the line 3 y, Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a diagram representing the half of a sacque cut in the ordinary manner. Fig. 5 is 2. diagram representing the half of a sacque formed and out upon one of our improved blocks.

The object of this invention is to facilitate and cheapen the construction of seal-skin sacques, dolmans, and ulsters.

The invention consists in a seal-skin sacque, dolman, and ulster block constructed with three or more boards secured to each other at their adjacent edges and attached at their ends to end boards, the adjacent edges of two or more of the boards being tapered, one or more of the boards being inclined inward, and the part of the block that corresponds with the waist of the garment being concaved at the edges and sides of the boards to adapt the block to be used for forming a seal-skin garment without darts, as will be hereinafter fully described.

To the outer edge of the board B is secured the forward edge of the third board, E.

The edges of the boards B E may meet at or nearly at a right angle, in which case a fourth board, F, is interposed between the edge of the said board E and the first board, A, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3; or the edges of the boards B E may meet at an acute angle, in which case the rear edge of the said third board, E, will meet the first board, A, and the fourth board will not be required. The adjacent edges and the sides of the boards of that part of the block that corresponds with the waist of the garment are concave d, as indicated in Fig. 1, to give the necessary contraction to the said waist of the garment. The adjacent edges of the boards B E, and of the boards E F when the board F is used, are tapered from the lower end toward the upper end of the block, and the board E or the boards E F incline inward, as shown in Fig. 1, to give the necessary fullness to the skirt of the garment. I

In using the block the seal-skin is wet to soften it, and the edge of the skin is tacked to the board E, or to the board F when used, and the said skin is worked into the concaves ofthe block until it fits thesaid block smoothly, the edges of the skin being tacked to the block as the work progresses until all the edges of the skin are secured.

If desired, the front edge of the skin can be first tacked to the board A and the skin fitted to the block in the reverse direction from that first described. skin are then set aside until the skin has dried and set to the block. The pattern-of the garment is then adjusted upon the skin while still upon the block, and the skin is cut to the edge of the pattern, or is marked along the edge of the pattern and afterward cut, as may be desired.

Right and left blocks must be made for the right and left halves of the garment.

By the use of this block the garment can be made without any darts, so that the labor and cost of making sealskin garments will be greatly lessened.
