UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'WILLIAM H. ELLIOTT, OF TEXARKA A, TEXAS.
WIRE BASKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,101, dated February 10, 1885.
Application ined May 1o, 1884. (No model.)
.To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ELLIOTT,
wires B are passed over the lower rim-wire, G, of the cylinder, whereby the said bottom of Texarkana, county of Bowie, Texas, have A will be held in the bottom of the cylinder invented a new and Improved Wire Basket, 5 of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved wire basket for collecting cotton and for like purposes, which basket is Io light, strong, and durable, and can be taken apart and folded compactly for storage or transportation.
, The invention consists in a wire basket formed cfa circular bottom, and awire frame I5 bent to form a cylinder, in the lower part of which cylinder the circular bottom is held.
The invention also consists in parts and de tails of construction, as will be fully set forth and described hereinafter.
2o Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the gures.
Figure l is a perspective View of my iniproved wire basket. Eig. 2 is a plan view ot' the bottom of the same; and Fig. 3 is a face view of the side netting, the same being unrolled.
The bottom A of the basket is formed of a 3o series of radial wires, B, secured to a small wire ring, O, and each radial wire B is provided at its outer end with a hook, a. The outer ends of the wires B are connected by a circular rim-wire, D. A thinner crimped wire, E, is wound spirally between the ring O and the rinrwire D, and is held by means of wire. or in any other suitable manner, to each radial wire B. The side of the basket consists of a frame, F, formed of three or 4o more horizontal wires, G, united by a series of vertical wires, H. Each Wire G is provided at one end with a hook, J, and at'the opposite end with an eye, K. Crossed diagonal thinner crimped wires, L, are secured to the Wires G and H. The frame F is bent to form a cylinder, which is closed by hooking the hooks J of the wires G into the eyes K at the op-4 posite ends of the said wires. The bottomAis placed within the bottom of the cylinder thus 5o formed, and the hooks a on the ends of the formed by the frame F.
The above-described basket is simple in construction, strong, and durable, and can be taken apart and folded very compact-ly for transportation and storage. The wires L can be crimped, if desired.
The abovedescribed basket is not intended 6o for use in shipping fruit, vegetables, or like articles, but is specially intended to be used in gathering cotton in place of the wooden basket used in picking cotton at present, as said Wooden basket is very expensive and not very durable.
Having thus described myinvention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A wire basket formed of a circular bottom, B, and a cylindrically-bent Wire frame, 7o E, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a Wire basket, the combination, with the circular bottom A, having hooks on the rim, of the cylindrically-bent wire frame held 'on the bottom by the hooks on the said bottom, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a wire basket, the combination, with the circular bottom B, of the Wire frame F, 8o having hooks J at one end and eyes K on the opposite end, substantially as herein shown and described. l
4. In awire basket, the combination, with the circular bottom A, formed of the ring C, the radial wires B, the hang-hooks a on their outer ends, the rim-wire D, and the wire E, of the wire frame F, substantially as herein shown and described.
5. In a Wire basket, the combination, with 9c the circular bottom B, of the wire frame F, formed of the horizontal wires G, each having a hook, J, at one end and an eye, K, at the oppposite end, the vertical wires H, and the crossed wires L, substantially as herein shown YV. H. ELLIOTT.
'and described.
