Description
Jan. 21, 1964 w. G. RODRIGUE SEAL TIP Filed March 9, 1962 /0 INVENTOR.
United States Patent 3,118,451 SEAL TE Wilhrod (G. Rodrigue, R. C. Rasb-erry, RR. 3, ampbellville, Gntario, Canada Filed Mar. 9, 1962, Ser. No. 178,693 1 Claim. (Cl. 13111) This invention relates to improvements in cigarettes, and more particularly, to devices applied to cigarettes.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a seal tip for cigarettes that will keep the tobacco in the cigarette, and prevent the tobacco from entering the mouth of the smoker.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a seal tip for cigarettes that will let the smoke pass without substantially filtering.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a seal tip bearing the above objects in mind, which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed 7,
description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view, comprising the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a side view, shown partly broken away; and
FIGURE 3 is an exploded view of the present invention.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a seal tip 10, made in accordance with the present invention, is shown to include a hollow, cup-like element 12 having a cylindrical side Wall, a convex inwardly directed end wall 14, the cylindrical side wall being connected to the end wall by an intermediate wall having a convex curved inner surface and a plurality of perforations 16 in spaced apart relation extending through the end wall. A substantially non-filtering, highly-porous, circular disc pad 18, is received therewithin the element 12, and the cigarette 20 is received in abutment therewith the circular pad.
The pad 18 prevents the tobacco 22 of cigarette 29 from entering the perforations 16 of the cap 12.
3,113,453 Patented Jan. 2'1, 196% In operation, when a smoker draws on the cigarette 20, the smoke passing through the tobacco 22 and therethrough the disc pad 18, which is highly porous, and traverses therethrough the plurality of openings therethrough the end wall 14 of element 12, and into the smokers mouth, thus, allowing none of the tobacco 22 to escape into the mouth of the smoker from the cigarette 20.
It will thus be recognized that the disc pad 18 is not a filter, but a stop to prevent tobacco 22 from entering the element 12, and then into a plurality of perforations 16, and into the smokers mouth.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention, as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A cigarette tip comprising a hollow, cup-like element having a cylindrical side wall and a concave perforated inwardly directed end wall, the cylindrical side wall being connected to the end wall by an intermediate wall having a convexly curved inner surface, the end wall having an overall diameter substantially less than that of the cylindrical side wall, the dimensioning being such that the intermediate wall bordering the cylindrical side wall forms an abutment for a porous pad adapted to contact the end of a cigarette snugly received in the cylindrical side wall section of the cup and prevent the escape of tobacco from the cigarette as well as space the cigarette from the end wall.
