Minneapolis, Minn. Griginai application Aug. 18, 1959, Ser. No. 834,614, new Patent No. 3,037,231, dated June 5, 1962. Divided and this application June 5, 1962, Ser. No. 260,244
1 Claim. (Cl. 152'46) This application is a division of my present application S.N. 834,614, filed August 18, 1959, to issue June 5, 1962, as US. Patent No. 3,037,231, and entitled Clip Attachment for Mounting Guide Sticks, Secondary Brushes and the Like on a Paint Brush.
This invention relates broadly to painters and decorators supplies; more particularly to paint brushes; and specifically to a permanent attachment applicable to a primary paint brush whereby a guide stick or secondary brush is mounted adjustably on the said primary brush.
The principal object of this invention is to provide means for permanently mounting a guide stick or secondary paint brush on a primary brush of any size.
This and other objects of the invention will become apparent from the following specification and claim when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which drawing, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
To the above end, generally stated, the invention con sists of the following devices and combination of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
Referring to the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a top plan view of the invention mounted on a primary paint brush the guide stick or secondary brush being fragmentarily shown. 7
FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of the same, and
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the invention proper.
The numeral 4 is directed to an endwise adjustable ramp having a longitudinally disposed forwardly and up wardly inclined central channel 5, said ram being permanently mounted on the base portion 6 of a primary paint brush '7. This inclined ramp 4 is mounted on the said primary paint brush 7 by means of a pair of wood screws 8 that extend into the base portion 6 of the paint brush 7 through a pair of laterally spaced elongated slots 9 formed in the longitudinal edge portions of the inclined ramp 4.
It will be obvious from the foregoing that this construction will permit endwise adjustable movement of the ramp 4 relative to the base 6 of the primary brush 7 and the bristles thereof 10.
This modification of the invention is primarily intended for use with the guide stick 11 having a work engaging head and shaft rather than with a secondary paint brush "ice and accordingly a relatively permanent mounting is called for whereby the guide stick 11 may be adjusted relative to the bristles 10 of the primary brush 7 for painting window sash and the like.
The mounting of the guide stick 11 is accomplished by means of a single wood screw 12 that extends through a bore 13 in the rear end portion of the shank 14 of the guide stick 11 and into engagement with the wood of the handle 15 of the primary paint brush 7. It will be seen that in this arrangement the guide stick 11 is free to pivot about the wood screw 12 and the inherent resiliency of the said guide stick will permit the same to be raised above the plane of the handle 15 of the paint brush '7 and firmly rest in the central channel 5 of the ramp 4 with the outer end portion thereof, not shown, adjusted according to the end portion of the bristles 10 of the primary brush 7. It will be further obvious that the guide stick 11 may be easily swung out of engagement with the ramp 4 if it should be desirable to dispense with the use of the guide stick 11 temporarily.
While there are herein disclosed but a limited number of embodiments of the structure, process and product of the invention herein presented, it is possible to product still other embodiments without departing from the inventice concept herein disclosed, and it is desired, therefore, that only such limitations be imposed on the appended claim as are stated herein or required by the prior art.
What I claim is:
A unitary support for mounting a guide stick on a paint brush comprising in combination, a relatively flat plate member, means for adjustably securing said plate member to the base portion of the paint brush, said plate member being in the form of a relatively fiat forwardly inclined ramp, said ramp having longitudinal edge portions substantially thicker and longer than the central portion thereof, said central portion lying between said edge portions to afiord a longitudinally disposed guide channel, a pair of longitudinally disposed slots extending transversely through each of said edge portions affording a passageway for a pair of attaching screws to secure the ramp to the base of the paint brush, a guide stick having a work engaging head and a longitudinally disposed shaft integral therewith, said shaft being pivotally secured to the paint brush at the outer end portion of each thereof for lateral swinging movements, the shaft of said guide stick being dimensioned to extend forwardly of its pivot point and into engagement with the guide channel of the ramp.
