PICNIC TABLE AND WORKBENCH CONVERSION Filed Jan. 4, '1961 2 Sheets-Sheet 1' IN VEN TOR.
DOA/e40 FT Ema/v0 D. F. AMEND PICNIC TABLE AND WORKBENCH CONVERSION Aug. 20, 1963 2 Shana-sheet 2 Filed Jan. 4, 1961 INVEN TOR. DOA/44,0 AME/v0 ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,101,061 PICNIC TABLE AND WORKBENCH CONVERSION Donald F. Amend, 18645 Pleasant St., Brookfield, Wis. Filed Jan. 4, 1961, Ser. No. 80,658 1 Claim. (Cl. 108-11) This invention relates to improvements in picnic table and workbench conversion, and more particularly to a novel picnic table-workbench conversion in which all the parts are used to form each structure involved in the invention.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which is quickly convertible without the use of special tools.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in perspective of a picnic table embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a side view in elevation of the same.
.FIG. 3 is an end view in elevation thereof.
FIG. 4 is a view taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a view of the device converted to workbench form.
FIG. 6 is an end view thereof.
FIG. 7 is a fragmentary fnont view of one end of the work-bench.
FIG. 8 is an end view in elevation of the conversion shown as a table.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numetal 10 refers to the device generally including a table top base 11 formed of 2 X4s, and the table top proper 12 formed of the outer planks 13 and 14, and the relatively narrower inner planks 15, 16 and 17.
At each end of the table top base 11, a pair of cross member legs 18 are bolted as at 1 9 and 20, and mutually engaged by the bolt 21. All bolts are fitted with wing nuts for ease in change over.
In the converted form the top plank 13 is placed on its side edge and secured by the bolts 43 which are obliquely disposed through plant 15 forming a back to the Workbench top as shown in FIG. 5. The top plank 13 has the tool holder rack 44, comprising a pair of spacers 45 and 46 and the keeper bar 47.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In a picnic table adapted tor conversion to a work bench, a plurality of longitudinally extending planks forming the top of the table, a longitudinal strip underlying and fastened to a top plank adjacent one side of the top of the table and in spaced relation to said top plank,
the top plank adjacent to said first mentioned top plank having a pair of oblique bores, the first mentioned top plank when reversed and placed on its side edge abutting said adjacent plank having oblique bores registering with the bores in the adjacent plank, and bolt means tor the bores to releasably retain the first mentioned top plank as a bench back with strip forming a tool rack in the bench form.
