Description

(No Model.)
B. F. MOHR.
STEAM BOILER.
Patented Dec. 16, 1884.
IN VENTUR.
- M ATTORNEYS.
WITNESSES STATES ATENT throat STEAM- BOILER.
SPECIFICATION {orming part of Letters Patent No. 309A84, dated December 16, 1884.
Application filed April 5, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern- Be it known that I, B. FRANK llIOHR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Miffiinburg, in the countyof Union and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a vertical sectional view of my improved steam boiler or generator. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View taken on the line :0 a: in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 7 9/ in Fig. 1.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to boilers for steamengines; and it has for its object to provide a device which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability, and general efficiency.
To this end it consists in certain improve ments in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
A in the drawings designates the firebox, which may be made of wrought-iron, in a cylindrical shape, substantially as shown, and provided at the bottom with the grate I O is the crown-sheet, from whence the fluesDI) extend upwardly, they being inclosed by a vertical cylindrical casing, E, havingatits upper end a top sheet, F, in which the upper ends of the fines D are fixed. The furnace or firebox A is inclosed by'a sheathing, G, connected to the bottom of the said fire-box by an annular ring, H, of steel or wrought-iron, to which the said fire-box and sheathing are riveted or otherwise suitably connected. The sheathing G is connected in like manner by an annular ring, I, with the lower end of the casing E, above which it extends, and is provided with a detachable top or cover, J. Smokestacks K K extend from diametrically opposite sides of the casing G, a short distance above the ring I.
The operation of this invention will be read 11 y understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. There is a direct upward draft through the lines, then cc down around the waterspace, and finally out through the smoke stacks. The latter, beinglocated on opposite sides of the boiler, will equalize the draft and render it steady and even. By removing the top of the boiler the lines may be easily and conveniently cleaned.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States As an improvement in steam boilers or generators, the herein-described device, comprising the firebox A, crown-sheet G, sheathing G, connecting-rings II I, casing E, top sheet, F, flues D, detachable cover J, and thesmokefiues K K, all arranged and operating substantially as and forthepurposeherein shown and specified.
In testimony that Iolaiin the foregoing as my own I have hereunto ai'lixed my signature in presence ot'two witnesses.
B. FRANK MOHR.
