NECKTIE AND COLLAR FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.309,431, dated December 16, 1884.

To all whom it nmy concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANK D. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Auburn, in the county of Placer and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fastenings, of which the following is a description.

This invention relates to that class of devices which are used for preventing a necktie from working up out of place upon a collar; and the object of the invention is to provide a light, simple, and inexpensive device which may be easily attached to or removed from a necktie, which will hold itself so attached and hold the necktie distendedin breadth, and which will hold the necktie at the lower edge of the collar.

To this end my invention consists in the construction forming a necktic-rastener, hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my necktie-fastener complete. Fig. 2 shows the same attached to a necktie, and Fig. 3 shows the position when in use of the fastener relative both to a necktie and a collar.

The fastener consists of a wire sharp at both ends, having its body B bent in the form of a letter S, with oneend, A, bent away from the body at right angles to and nearly in the plane of the general direction thereof, and the other end also bent at right angles to the body, but in the opposite direction to the end A, and practically in line therewith, and bent back over itself, forming a hook, as shown at C. The wire is spring-tempered, and tends to restore itself to the shape shown when it is bent in any direction. In service the hook end 0 is first inserted from the inner side through and up over the lower edge of the necktie. Then the end A is compressed toward the end 0. is inserted in the neck-tie and the fastener allowed to spring apart, pushing the end A into place, as shown in Fig. 2.

Either the collar may be placed within the hook C, and both collar and tie put on the person together, or the collar,,being already on the tie with the hook or hooks on it may be easily placed to secure the hooks beneath the lower edge of the collar, between the latter and the neckband of the shirt.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A necktie-fastener consisting of a springwire-pointed at both ends, having its body in the form of a letter 8, its ends bent nearly at right angles thereto and nearly in line with each other, and one end bent back over its body in the form of a hook, substantially as shown and described.
