Description

(No Model.)
J. G. ARNOLD.
STOVE TRUCK.
Patented Dec. 9, 1884.
ATTORNEYS.
Nirr;
a'rnr STOVE-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,121, dated December 9, 1884.
Application filed March 26, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JOHN G. ARNOLD, of VVellsville, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Stove-Truck, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved truck for facilitating the lifting and moving of stoves.
The invention consists in the combination, with a frame having casters, of an additional frame connected with and held above the first frame by pivoted links, thus adapting the upper frame to swing upward and forward. A draft bar or pole is hinged to one end of the bottom frame, and a bail is hinged to the top frame, which bail is held adjustably on the draft bar or pole.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved stovetruck, showing the top frame lowered. Fig. 2 is a side view, showing the top frame raised and parts being broken out. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is a side view of a modified construction of the link.
A flat frame, A, is provided at each corner with a caster, B, and to the front end of the frame a draft pole or bar, 0, is hinged, which is provided with alongitudinal slot, D, a short distance from the lower end. A frame, E, above the frame A is connected with the same by links F, hinged to the frames A and E, the ends of the links being held in grooves in the top and bottom of the side pieces of the frames. Two or more links are arranged in each side of the truck. The links are pivoted at their ends, or the links are provided with slots G, inclined upward from the front edges of the links, into which slots the pins, pivots, or studs in the bottom frame can pass. A bail, H, has its ends pivoted to the front ends of the sides of the top frame, E, and at its middle it is passed through a bolt, J, passed through the slot D in the bar or pole G, on the lower end of which bolt a winged nut, K, is screwed. To the inner surfaces of the side bars of the bottom frame, A, upwardly-projecting check-plates L are secured at the rear ends.
The operation is as follows: The bolt J is adjusted to the middle of the slot D, and is locked in place by the nut K. The handle or draft bar or pole C is raised, as shown in Fig. 1, the frame E resting on the frame A. The truck is then rolled under the stove, and then the bar or pole O is swung down, whereby the top frame, E, is pulled forward, and as it is connected by the links F with the frame A it is also swung upward into the position shown in Fig. 2 and raises the stove. The stove rests upon the truck and can be drawn to any desired place. The rear cross-piece of the frame E strikes the check-plates L, which prevent swinging the top frame, E, forward too far. The frame E and the stove can easily be lowered by swinging up the "bar or rod 0. After the stove has been raised the bolt J can be released to permit lowering the bar or rod 0 to facilitate moving the truck about. The distance the frame E is raised can be regulated by passing the pivots in the bottom frame into the upper or lower slots G of the links. The rear wheels may be arranged upon a fixed axle instead of in casters, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with the upper and lower frame, hinged together by pivoted links, of the tongue 0, pivotally connected to the lower frame and provided with the vertical longitudinal slot D, the bail H, pivoted to the upper frame and having the bolt J secured to its free end and passing through the slot D, and a nut, K, for securing the bolt and its bail in any desired position, substantially as set forth.
2. In a truck, the combination, with the frame A, having casters B, of the frame E, 0011- nected with the frame A by pivoted links, and of the check-plates L, secured to the bottom frame and projecting upward, substan tially as herein shown and described.
3. In a truck, the combination, with the frame A and E, of the links F, having upwardly-inclined slots G, substantially as here in shown and described.
J N O. G. ARNOLD.
