AD-TOKEN CARD Filed Oct. 10, 1960 NAME OF COMPANY rsspmq "roKENs I K K K K AD/TUKIEN CARD JUSZPH I. M19556 United States Patent ()fi ice 3,047,144 Patented July 31, 1962 3,047,144 AD-TOKEN CARD Joseph A. Wissel, 118-35 228th St., Cambria Heights 11, NY. Filed Oct. 10, 1960, Ser. No. 61,482 1 Claim. (Cl. 206-.83)
This invention relates to advertising devices and, more particularly, to 'a combination utility and advertising package.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a packaging device for transit tokens which will provide for the convenient dispensing, handling, and use of transit tokens by transit employees and travellers.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a transit token package in which a selected number of tokens are removably mounted upon a panel which can on its reverse side he used for revenue producing advertising purposes, thus enabling the transit companies to recoup the use of the cost of such cards over and above the cost of the tokens.
Still an additional object of the present invention is to provide a package of transit tokens of the type described which substantially reduce the time required for handling such tokens, and prevent accidental loss of the tokens or coins placed therewithin.
All of the foregoing and further objects and advantages of this invention will 'become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of a token package made in accordance with the present invention in actual use;
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the assembly shown in FIGURE 1, illustrating the manner in which a token is removed;
FIGURE 3 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 33 of FIGURE 2; and
FIGURE 4 is a bottom perspective view of the assembly shown in FIGURE 1.
Referring now to the drawing, a package of transit tokens made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a substantially rigid, self supporting base panel having a plurality of token receiving sockets 14 opening outwardly from one side. The bottom of each such socket 14 is coated with a layer 16 of adhesive material which is sufliciently tacky to releasably secure an individual token 18 therewithin.
The opposite side of the base card 12 is preferably provided with a smooth surface which can be conveniently used for imprinting an advertising message 20 thereupon.
It will now be recognized that in actual use, the transit company will supply the tokens 18 individually mounted within the respective sockets 14 of the card 12 for distribution to transit riders upon request. The use of these cards will substantially reduce the amount of time ordinarily required for the transit worker to count the tokens for each purchaser, and will serve as an added convenience to the purchaser in the use and carrying of such tokens.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A package for holding transit tokens, comprising a substantially rectangular rigid base card having one side defining a smooth surface with advertising indicia imprinted thereupon, recesses in the opposite side of the base card from the advertising indicia to form sockets each for receiving individual transit tokens, and adhesive disposed on the bottoms of said recesses providing a sufliciently tacky surface attractiveness in each of said recesses to 'detachably mount a transit :token therein.
