UNITED 4STATES y PATENT OFFICE.
PETER S. yEASTMAN, OF OSAGE, IOWA.
CLIP FOR HlTCHlNG-STRAPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 304,188, dated August; 26, 1884.
(No model.)
.To all whom, t may concern.'
Be it known that I, PETER S. Eas'rMAN, of Osage, in the county of Mitchell and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in- Clips for Hitching-Straps, of which the following is a fnll, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists in a clip for fastening the free end of a bitching-strap while driving, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a front perspective view of my improved device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional `side view of the same.
A plate, A, preferably stamped up from thin sheet metal to securelightness, forinsthe support for the clip, and the plate has holes at its ends, so that it can be fastened byscrews or rivets to the pad-skirt of the harness. A wire, B, bent double, has its ends passed through apertures a/ and made fast at the under side of upper end of the plate, and is passed at B behind a loop, a, formed or attached at the bottom of the plate, the bight of the wire coming out at the front so as to form a spring tang or arm, I), between the Wires. The strap c is passed down behind the tang, and is thus clamped so that it shall not become loose by accident, but 'can be readily removed for bitching purposes.
' This device is simple and convenient, and saves the trouble of tying the strap, as usually practiced.
I do not limit myself to the exact form and construction shown. u
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the holder forhitching-straps hereindescribed, consisting of the plate A, provided with apertures a and loop a, and the double wire B, secured at its ends within the aperture a and then passed behind the loop a and outin front of and above said loop and between the wires, as shown, to form the spring tang or arm b, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the plate A, formed with apertures a c, of the double wire B, seo cured at its ends within the apertures a and bent inward and outward, as shown at B', and then upward to form the spring-tongue b,
which tongue is between the straight portiony ofthe wires, substantially as shown and described.
PETER S. EASTMAN.
