TAG-FASTENER.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, Gnonen N. BUCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mattoon, in the county of Goles, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tag-Fasteners, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a tag and fastener embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a roll of cloth or fabric and the tag attached thereto.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.

My invention relates to improvements in the class of tag-fasteners having prongs which are attached to the tags and adapted to be inserted between the folds of a roll of cloth or other fabric and automatically engage therewith.

The invention consists in providing a tag with a single prong, the point whereof is bent back toward the tag, or in a plane parallel or approximately parallel with the prong, whereby there is an increased holding-power of the prong on the goods anda reduction in the expense of the fastener.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a tag having an opening, a, which is eyeleted for strengthening purposes, and B represents a prong formed of a piece of wire, having at one end a point, Zr, and at the other an eye, 0, the latter being fastened to the tag in the opening a. The point I) is bent backward toward the tag, so as to extend parallel with the plane of the body or main length of the prong, as at d, the extreme end of the point being somewhat salient or set out.

It will be seen that when the tag is to be attached to a roll of cloth or other fabric the prong is pushed into the same between the folds, and the point assumes such position that a slight movement outward of the prong, either purposely or accidentally, causes the point to enter the contiguous fold of the roll and adjacent folds thereof to the extent of the length of said point, the point thus automatically engaging with the folds of the goods and causing the reliable attachment of the tag to the goods. It will also be seen that owing to the construction of the point the prong re mains securely fastened to the goods, and accidental disengagement thereof is prevented, and the roll may be turned over and handled without disconnection of the prong. It will also be seen that a single prong is employed, thus cheapening articles of the class, and the eye 0 extends from the body of the prong in the same plane as the point b, whereby the tag hangs freely and is prevented from being twisted, its face also being presented to show marks thereon to the best advantage.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A tag-fastener consisting of a straight 1nid dle part, 13, formed of a single rod, a hook, (1, at one end of said rod, and an eye, 0, at the other end of said rod, said hook and eye being turned toward each other, substantially as set forth.
