Description
June 19, 1962 w. H. sTEFANAKls REVERSIBLE MIRROR AND REMOVABLE PICTURE FRAME Filed Aug. 8, 1960 United States Patent O 3,039,217 REVERSIBLE MIRROR AND REMQVABLE PICTURE FRAME William I-I. Stefanakis, Long Beach, N.Y. Symbol Novelty Co., 4396 Austin Blvd., Island Park, NX.) Filed Aug. 8, 1960, Ser. No. 48,084 1 Claim. (Cl. 40-152) This invention relates to frames and more particularly to a multi-compartmented picture frame.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a combination mounting in the form of a frame having means at each side for supporting a different sheet meinber therewithin.
Still a further object of the present invention is to provide a combination mounting unit having flange portions at one side for removably supporting a exible picture sheet therewithin, and detachable mounting means at the opposite side for securing a rigid mirror plate therewithin.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a combination mounting frame made in accordance with the present invention, showing the mirror side thereof;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a rear elevational view of a detachable or permanent frame element forming a part of the present invention;
FIGURE 4 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 4-4 of FIGURE 3;
FIGURE 5 is a rear elevational view of a main panel frame member forming another part of the present invention;
FIGURE 6 is a longitudinal cross sectional view taken along line 6 6 of FIGURE 5 and FIGURE 7 is an an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional exploded perspective view taken along line 7-7 of FIGURE 1, illustrating the manner in which the parts are assembled.
Referring now to the drawing, a combination mounting frame assembly 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a frarne member 12 having a marginal recess 14 Within which a rigid sheet 16, such as a mirror may be inserted through the rear side thereof.
The assembly also includes a main panel member 18 having a margina1 flange 21) defining a peripheral groove ICC 22 adjacent to the main backing panel section 24 thereof within which a flexible sheet member 28 such as a photograph may be inserted. As the groove 22 extends around the entire periphery of the unit and is continuous, access means in the form of a pair of end slots 26 extend through the main panel section 24 thereof to facilitate the insertion of the ilexible sheet 28 into the groove 22 from the front side of the panel after the frame is assembled.
In actual use, the picture is slightly bent and the ends inserted under the top and bottom flanges after the frame is assembled. A rigid sheet 16, such as the mirror, is placed within its socket 14, whereby the two main elements 12, 18 may be assembled with each other, as shown in FIGURE 2, with a marginal rib 32 of the one member 18 fitting into the groove formed by the marginal rib 31) of the main frame 12, thus providing an interlocking friction tit releasably securing the parts together.
The photograph can be removed and replaced without disassembling the frame.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction `shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best delined by the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A combination frame type mounting comprising, in combination, a main panel member having a backing panel portion and a marginal lange spaced from the panel portion to define a marginal groove therebetween for receiving a flexible sheet, a flexible sheet in the marginal groove, said backing panel portion having a pair of end slots communicating with said marginal groove for insertion of the flexible sheet, a rframe member releasably connected to said main panel and having a marginal ilange spaced from the main panel member to form a marginal groove therebetween, a rigid sheet clamped between the frame and panel members and in the marginal groove in the frame member, ysaid rigid sheet covering the end slots in the backing panel portion, and said members having marginal ribs each extending away from the flange of its member and toward the other member, said ribs frictionally interlocking to releasably connect the main panel member and the frame member.
