SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,517, dated August 12, 1884.

T0 to whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LUMAS II. HUBBARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Romeo, in the county of Macomb and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-0leaners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This inventionrelates to certain improvements in window mops or washers; and it has for its objects to provide an adjustable head for the same, which may be set at any desired angle, and which may be charged with a quantity of'water, which will be gradually and automatically supplied'to a washer secured' between two parts of the head, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a view, partly in section and partly in elevation, of my improved device; and Fig. 2 represents a detached sectional view of a portion of the device.

The letter A indicates the head of the device, which is constructed in two parts, having juxtaposed recesses B, which are approximately semi-cylindrical in cross-section. The edges of the head are beveled, as indicated by the letter C, so as to permitthe washer and rubber hereinafter described to be readily applied to the window or other surface to be washed or cleaned. To one of the parts of the head is attached a plate, D, having-a hemispherical recess, E, to which plate is attached adjustably a plate, F, having a circular opening, G, opposite said recess. In said opening is seated a hemispherical shell, II, having a flange, I, by which it is held in the opening. The said shell is slotted as indicated, and through said slot passes the shank of a ball, K, which is seated be-' tween the shell and the hemispherical recess in the plate D above mentioned. The shank is provided with a socket, I, by means of which the device may be secured to a suitable handle, L, as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The two plates are adjustably clamped together by means of a screw-bolt and thumb-nut, M, and a screw, N, in such manner that the head may-be set at any desired angle. Between Lthe parts of the head, at one side, is a folded strip. of felt or other suitable material, I, the edges of which project beyond the'edge of the head at one side, and at the opposite side is secured between the parts a projecting sheet of rubber, It. WVithin the felt is secured a perforated metallic chamber, S, which is to be filled with water, the said chamber and surrounding felt being held in the semi-cylindrical recesses in the two parts of the head in such manner that the water will be automatically supplied to the felt for washing. The chamber is pro vided with a detachable funnel for filling, and with a cap or stopper for closing it when filled.

For convenience, the handle of the device is made in sections, and provided with a socket, T, which the parts may be joined together.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of thehead constructed in two parts, having semi-cylindrical recesses, the interposed felt and rubber, and the perforated tube adapted to contain water, substantially as specified.

2. The combination of the head constructed of two semicylindrically recessed parts, the interposed felt and rubber, and a perforated tube adapted to contain water, with a suitable handle adapted to carry the said head, substantially as described.

3. The combination of thehcad constructed of two semi-cylindrically recessed parts, the interposed felt and rubber, and a perforated tube adapted to contain water, with a suitable handle carrying the said head at one end, and being connected therewith by a universal joint,.substantially as described. I

The combination of the head constructed of two semi-cylindrically recessed parts, the interposed felt and rubber, and a perforated tube adapted to contain water, with a suitable handle carrying the said head at one end, the saidhandle being adjustable as to length, to adapt it to varying heights to which it may be used, substantially as described.
