Description

Feb. 13, 1962 M. L. DEAN BOW MAKING FORM Filed Aug. 1, 1960 IN VEN TOR. Mara/ex; A F5 7 3,021,038 BOW MAKING FORM Marjorie L. Dean, 15817 Pitts Ave., Paramount, Calif. Filed Aug. 1, 1960, Ser. No. 46,489 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-46) This invention relates to a bow making form, and has as its primary object the provision of a form which facilitates the making of flower bows which may be adapted for ornamentation, as for example, with tie-back curtains, or pillow tops, or gift wrappings, or any other suitable purpose wherein ornamental bow is desired.
A primary object of this invention is the provision of a form whereby the making of an ornamental bow is facilitated.
As conducive to a clearer understanding of this invention, it may here be pointed out that in the making of ornamental bows of this type it has hitherto been necessary to employ the fingers of the hand, catching the loops of the ribbon over the different fingers, andv finally to tie a knot in the center to hold the various loops together. Various forms have been designed to facilitate this operation, but hitherto these have been marked by complexity of form and difficulty of manipulation so that the tieing of ornamental loop. bows has been a difiicult operation requiring considerable skill. It is an object of this invention, therefore, to provide a device by which a looped bow having multiple loops in the center rosette may be tied by an inexperienced person with a minimum of effort and difiiculty.
Other objects reside in the combination of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein there are disclosed preferred embodiments of this inventive concept.
In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of one form of how form-' ing device constructed in accordance with the instant invention, a ribbon being shown as partially applied thereto. F EIGIURE 2 is a side elevational view of the device of FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the device of FIG. 1 showing a ribbon partially applied thereto from the opposite side.
FIGURE 4 is a plan view of a modified form of the invention; and
FIGURE 5 is a side elevational view of the device of FIG. 4.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Having reference now to the drawings in detail, and more particularly to FIGS. 1 to 3, inclusive, there is generally indicated at a bow forming device which comprises a flat sheet or blank 11 which is cut with a plurality of triangular points 12, in the illustrative embodiment herein shown there being nine points.
A circular central aperture 13 is provided. In forming a bow in accordance with the instant invention a length of ribbon 15 is first folded with one end projected as at 16 through the central opening 13. The ribbon is then extended outwardly as at 17 on one side of the blank 11 and folded over the point as at 18, with the edge of the folded portion seating in the oppositely disposed indentations 20 on either side of the particular point 12, as best shown in FIG. 3. The ribbon is then extended as at 21 along the opposite side of the same point 12 and then brought upwardly through the opening 13 and again reverted as indicated at 22. When all of the points have been covered, the several loops States Patent extending through the center aperture are tied by separate piece of ribbon to form a knot, and the finished bow is then removed from the form by slipping the portions 18 over the associated points 12. The device may be made in any desired size, and with any desired number of points, and any suitable ribbon may be employed for forming the flower bows.
FIGURES 4 and 5 disclose a modified form of the invention wherein there is provided a blank 25, having a plurality of points 26, in the illustrative embodiment shown there being 12 of these points and is particularly adapted for the use of larger bows. A central opening 27 is provided, and a plurality of additional points 28 are provided which are struck upwardly at an angle from the surface of the bow, as best shown in FIG. 5, there being one point 28 for each alternate point 2 6. The bases of the points 28 as shown at 29 are substantially in alignment radially with the bases 30 of the points 26. In the use of this modification the loops of the ribbon may be positioned around the points 26 as in the foregoing modification, and a second inner circular ribbon may be positioned around the points 28, with the ends looped through the opening '27 to form a bow having two rows of concentrically aligned ribbon loops. In this modification the central portions which are extended through the opening 27 are tied in the same manner as that of the foregoing modification, and after tieing the assembled bow is removed from the form.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved form for making flower bows or the like which accomplishes all'the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A form for making ribbon bows comprising a fiat plate having a central circular opening therein and a series of radially extending points, said points being of a length substantially less than the radius of said circle for the reception of a ribbon extended first through the center opening and then successively looped over the points in circumferential sequence with the end of the last loop extending through the opening to form, with the other end so extended a central knot, and a second series of radially disposed points concentric'with said first series over which the second circular ribbon points may be looped.
2. A form for making ribbon bows comprising a fiat plate having a central circular opening therein and a series of radially extending points, said points being of a length substantially less than the radius of said circle for the reception of a ribbon extended first through the center opening and then successively looped over the points in circumferential sequence with the end of the last loop extending through the opening to form, with the other end so extended a central knot, and a second series of radially disposed points concentric with said first series over which the second circular ribbon points are looped, the points of said second series being struck from the material of said blank and extending angularly upwardly from the plane of said blank.
3. A form for making ribbon bows comprising a flat plate having a central circular opening therein and a series of radially extending points, said points being of a length substantially less than the radius of said circle for the reception of a ribbon extended first through the center opening and then successively looped over the e ies of points being aligned with alternate points of points in circumferential sequence with the end of the The first Series of P last loop extending through the opening to form, with I the other end so extended a central knot, and a second References C'ted the the of Patent series of radially disposed points concentric with said 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS l si ovher h rifle if n il r rigbon p 1,872,231 Hans 1932 are oope t e points 0 sai secon series eing struc' from the material of said blank and extending angular- FOREIGN PATENTS ly upwardly from the plane of said blank, said second 447,852 France 14, 91
