Other obiects of the invention are to provide a furniture unit bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a pensive to manufacture and etlicient in operation.
For other objects' and for a better understanding ofsthe invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is an end elevational view, with parts broken away, 1 an article of furniture made in accordance with the present invention, with certain parts thereof in arr-open position; Iv
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of theunit shownin FIGURE 1, with parts broken away to show end-opening drawers forming apart thereof; p v
Fl'GURE 3 is a fragmentary side elevational view of the unit shown in FIGURE 1, with the side opening racks in a closed position. j
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a storage unit it} made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a substantially cubical housing 12 having depending feet 14 for supporting it upon a supporting surface. The top of the unit is provided with a substan tialiy fiat table top 16, while each side thereof is provided with a pair of vertically spaced apart and longitudinally extending rectangular openings 18, each of which is normally closed by a similarly shaped rectangular panel 20 that is pivotally secured to the housing by means of longitudinal hinges 22. i
As is more clearly shown in FIGURES 1 and 2 of the drawing, each panel 20 is provided with a pair of pivotally connected folded braces 24 that are pivotally connected at their opposite ends by means of hinge pins 28 to the frame of the housing 12 and the respective closure panel 29, whereby rotation of the connectedsends of the links 24 about their pivotal connection 26 will enable each such panel 20 to be moved to the closed position shown in FlGURl-E 3. Each panel-2i is also providedwith a substantially perpendicularly related plate 311, which supports the toe portions of the shoes 36 placed within the rack.. A brace 32 extends diagonally between the outermost end r of the plate 3% and the upper end of each panel 20, at each longitudinal extremity of the panel, and a rod 34 extends longitudinally between the mid portions of each pair of braces 32. 1 With the shoes 36 placed within the rack, the rod 34 engages the under surface of the shoe Calif assignor oi one-tenth minimum number of parts, is inexin the joint between the heel and the arch, while the toe of the shoe rests'upon the outer end of the plate 3%. Thus, the racks may be opened and closed by rotating the members about the longitudinal hinges 22, without dislod'ging the shoes from supported engagement thereon.
Each end of the wall closure 12 is also provided with i a substantiallyrectangular cutout 33 within which an elongatedv drawer 49 is .slidably disposed. A pair of,
laterally spaced-apart-and longitudinally extending bars 44 serve as sliding support guides for each-drawer alias shown in FlGURE 2. Dividers 46 separate the interior I v of each drawer 49 into individual compartments 48, each, oi which may be used to store stockings 5%, or the like.
It will now be recognized that a small, compact, and
attractive unit has been provided which can be conveniently used in any dressing room for keepingshoes, stocke lugs, and other accessories in a convenient location at all times.
Withdrawn simply by opening the respective racks, and choosing any one of the several pairs. drawers also serve as a convenient means for storing stockings, handkerchiefs, and the like, so that virtually all necessary items may be be conveniently stored in a single unit.
