5PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,774, dated June 24;, 1884.

Be it known that 1, DAVID HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Boots, Shoes, and Overshoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to the manufacture of boots, shoes, and overshoes, by which the same are more serviceable and useful for walking on ice or on any smooth or slippery surface, and for the preventing the user or wearer of the same from slipping.
Figure 1 shows a shoe with my improvement attached. Figs. 2 and 3 show a strip of steel or other metal running along the center of the sole of the boot, shoe, or overshoe, with bars of the same metal crossing the sole on the'ball and at the heel portions. Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Pato ent is 1. In an improved boot, shoe, or oversh oe, the lower or outer sole provided with a longitudinal metallic strip and cross-strips upon its inner side, the longitudinal strip and cross- 45 strips having points projecting through the sole, as set forth.
2. A boot, shoe, or ove-rshoe provided with an inner and outer sole, having alongitudinal metallic strip and cross-strips secured between the two soles, the longitudinal strip and crossstrips having teeth or points projecting through the outer sole, all substantially as set forth.
8. In a boot, shoe, or overshoe, the outer sole provided with metallic strips having triangular points struck up from themetallic strips, and projecting through the sole, all substantially as set forth.
