E. P. OONNER.
DOOR SEGURER, &o. No. 299,742, Patented June 3, 1884.

WITNESSES v INVENTOR M 1 BY M 7 I TTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DOOR-SECURER, 84.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,742, dated June 3, 1884.
Application filed August 23, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD P. CONNER, of Santa Rosa, in the county of Sonoma and State of California, have invented a new and vImproved Door-Lock and Combination-Tool,
jaw, which can be forced into the rabbet of a door, and if the door is closed the hammerhead can be turned on the screw to act as a bolt and prevent the door from being opened.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved combined door-lock and tool. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view of the same, showing the manner in' which it is used to look a door.
A metal plate, A, has one end bent rectangularly, and the said bent part is beveled or sharpened to form a sharp-edged flange or jaw, B. On the other end of the plate A a screw, 0, is formed, which is provided on its end with a transverse cutting ridge or blade, D. A hammerhead, E, havingaclaw, is pro vided with a central threaded aperture, through which the screw O is passed. The
head can thus be adjusted on the screw a greater or less distance from the free end of the same by simply turning the head in one directionor the other.
If a door, F, is to be locked by means of the device, the edge of the jaw B is placed against the rabbet G, with the screw 0 projecting in that direction in which the door opens, and the hammer-head E being vertical. If the door is closed, its swinging edge forces the jaw B into the rabbet. Then .the hammerhead is turned until it rests on the surface of the door and casing and crosses the edges of both, as shown, and thus prevents opening the door.
If cartridges are to be extracted, the jaw B is placed between the end of the barrel and the rim of the cartridge, which can then be withdrawn very easily.
The implement can also be used as a canppener by placing the jaw B on the can and forcing it through the can by tapping on it, and repeating this until the can is cut open.
The jaw B can be used as a scraper for scraping wood, 850., or the device can also be used as a sash-lock.
The outer end of the screw 0 is flattened slightly, so that the hammer-head will bind on that part of the screw and will be held in place, which it must be while being used to drive tacks, &c.
If desired, a nut 01' winged nut can be used in place of the hammer-head E.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combined door-lock and tool, formed of the fiat plate A, having the right-angled and sharp-edged flange B, the thread 0, the trans verse cutting-ridge D, and the hammer-nut E, said tool having an end adapted to be used as ascrew-driver, and one for drawing tacks, all as shown and described.
EDWVARD P. OONNER.
