SCARIFIER ATTACHMENTS FOR BULLDOZER BLADES Filed Sept. 8, 1958 IN VEN TOR.
W91. rEz 4. 5006/4 BY United States Patent 2,996,818 SCARIFIER ATTACHMENTS FOR BULLDOZER BLADES Walter L. Buuek, 2204 N. 71st St., Wauwatosa 13, Wis.
Filed Sept. 8, 1958, Ser. No. 759,495
1 Claim. (Cl. 37-445) This invention relates to improvements in scarifier attachments for earth-moving blades or the like, and more particularly to a novel pivoted scarifier adapted for use during the rearward movement of the blade.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which can be dropped downwardly on pivot connections to present a plurality of spaced teeth to a surface during rearward movement of a blade of the type between working uses of the blade itself during forward movement.
Another object of the invention is to provide a scarifier attachment which will be efficient and economical of manufacture.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a side view of a scaritier attachment on a conventional bulldozer blade.
FIG. 2 is a view of the same showing forward movement of the blade in conventional use.
FIG. 3 is a view in elevation of the back of the bulldozer blade showing the scarifier attachment in lowered position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral refers to an earth-moving blade or the like provided with a transverse reinforcement member 11. A plurality of pivot elements 12 are spaced longitudinally of the blade '10, and connect by means of bolts 13 or other suitable means with the arcuate arms 14, which latter are welded to the transversely disposed angle iron 15.
2,9'6,8l8 Patented Aug. 22, 1961 "ice A plurality of scarifying teeth 16 are spaced along the angle iron 15. The teeth 16 present a straight rear edge as at 17, and have a rounded frontal edge as at 18. A plurality of chains 19 are utilized to maintain the angle iron 15 and teeth 16 in raised position.
In use, release of the chains 19 will drop the teeth to lowermost position, and the blade may be backwardly moved to cause the teeth 16 to perform the scarifying function. If the blade be moved forwardly, the teeth 16 will pivot out of the way and the blade 10 will perform its normal function.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In a scarifier attachment for bulldozer blades, a longitudinal reinforcement member on the rear face of a blade, a plurality of pivot brackets disposed along said reinforcement member in horizontally spaced relation, a horizontally disposed angle iron, arms connecting the angle iron with the pivot brackets, a plurality of scarifier teeth fixed spacedly on said angle iron in such a manner that the butt ends of said teeth rest squarely against one segment of the angle iron and the other segment backs the following edges of the teeth when the latter are in use during backing of the bulldozer, said teeth being fixed to said angle iron.
