GEORGE KREMENTZ, OF NEWARK, NEWV JERSEY.
EAR-ORNAMENT FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,987, dated May 20, 1884.
Ap lication filed Felmiary 21, 1884.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE KREMENTZ, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Ear-Ornament Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to that class of earornaments in which an ornament or gem-setting is held on one end of a wire which is passed through the aperture in the lobe of the ear.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved fastening device to prevent the wire from being withdrawn accidentally or dropping out of the aperture in the ear.
The invention consists in a nut fitting on an ear-wire for holding an ear-ornament, provided with means for clamping the nut on the ear-wire. 7
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved ear-ring fastener. Fig. 2 is a rear face view of the same. Fig. 3 is a face view of the clamping-frame. Fig. 4. is a face view of the intermediate plate.
A gem-setting, A, or other ornament, is held on one end of a wire, B, which is to be passed through the ear for the purpose of holding the ornament on the front of the ear-lobe. A cup-shaped plate, 0, is provided with two slits, D, extending inward from the edges, and in the said slits the cross-piece of a square clamping-frame, E, is held, which is provided in the inner surface of its cross-piece with a projection, F, having its end slightly recessed. The plate 0 is placed against a cup-shaped plate, G, and a recessed filling-plate, H, is held on the face of the plate 0, and then the edges of the plate G are bent over the edges of the (No model.)
the device in the manner described, the clamp- N ing-frame E can be held in a lock-nut, K, constructed in any other suitable manner. The wire B is passed through the aperture in the lobe of the ear, and then the nut K is passed -on the wire, the frame E projecting back from the nut parallel with the wire. The outer or free end of the frame E is then swung against the back of the nut, so that the frame E will be at. right angles to the ear-wire. Thereby the free end of the projection F is pressed forcibly against the wire 13 and clamped on the same, thereby clamping the nut K on the wire at the inner side of the lobe of the ear.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with an ear-wire holding an ornament, of a hollow nut through which the ear-wire passes, provided with a clamp for engaging the ear-wire between its walls and locking the same to the wire, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with a nut fitting on an ear-wire for holding an ear-ornament, of a clamping-frame hinged in the nut, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination, with a nut fitting on an ear-wire for holding an ear-ornament, of a frame, E, hinged in the nut and provided with a projection, F, at its hinged end, which projection is adapted to clamp on the ear-wire, substantially as herein shown and described.
GEORGE KREMENTZ.
