To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE PHILLIPS, of Tilford, in the county of Jefferson and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Frame for Door and Window Screens, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved screen-frame for doors and windows, which frame can readily be adjusted in height and width.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

The bottom bar and the side bars are all constructed in the same manner, and for this reason the top bar, A, will only be described in full. The sections A A are each provided in each side surface with a longitudinal groove, a, and on the end of each section A A a clip, D, is fastened on each surface, the clips projecting beyond the inner longitudinal edges of the said sections, and the ends of the clips being bent inward to form hooks d. The hooks d of the plates or clips 1) on the section A pass into the opposite grooves, a, in the section A and the hooks d of the clips or plates D on the section A pass into the grooves a in the section A. The sections forming the bars are thus held together in such a manner that they can slide on each other in the direction of the length of the bars, thus permitting of lengthening or shortening the bars, as may be necessary. Abinding-screw, E, of any suitable construction, is held at the end of the section A of the bar, and in the end of the corresponding section of each other bar, the said screw projecting from the inner surface of the bar. The said screw serves for locking the bar-sections in the desired position. The outer edge of each side bar is provided with a longitudinal groove, F, for receiving the strip on the window-casing, for the purpose of holding the screen-frame in place in the casing. On the ends of each side bar two clips or plates, G, are held, which project over the ends of the said bars, and have hooks gformed on the projecting ends, which hooks pass into grooves h onthe side surfaces of the top and bottom bars, A B, at the outer ends. The side bars, 0, are thus held removably on the ends of the top and bottombars, but can be held securely on the ends of the said top and bottom bars by means of screws m, passed through screw-holes n in the projecting ends of the clips or plates G. If the-screen is very high, the side bars, 0, can be united by acrossbar, J, constructed in the same manner as the other bars, and secured to the inner edges of the side bars by means of angle-irons K. The screen-frame can thus be adjusted to fit a door or window opening of any size within the limits of the frame, and after the frame has been adjusted the netting is secured on the same. When the frame is not in use, it can be folded very compactly, so as to occupy a very small space.
