PATENT OFFICE;
ELIAS D. ROTH, OF FORTCOLLINS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JACOB A. PEARCE, OF BUENA VISTA, COLORADO.
LUBRICATING DEVICE FOR CUTTER-BARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,814, dated March 25, 1884.
Application filed January24, 1884. (No model.)
To whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIAS D. Born, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Collins, in the county of Larimer and State of Colhereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying figure, which is a perspective of my device, A represents a finger-.
bar of the machine, which is provided at the rear of its upper side with a longitudinal groove, a, in which the cutter-bar B lies and is made to reciprocate.
G 0 represent the cutters, The rear ends of these cutters are pivoted to the cutterbar B. They are pivoted also centrally between the finger-bar and an overlying plate, D, as seen at w :v.
E represents a cap, whicl1 is hinged to the rear of the finger-bar, and which lies over the cutter-bar to shield-it, as far as possible, from I injury and from dust and dirt.
Frepresents a perforated pipe, which is secured to the cap E, running lengthwise of it, and which connects with a flexible tube, G. The tube G connects with an oil-reservoir, H. This oil-reservoir is secured upon any convenient portionof the frame of the machine, in
nection to the pipe F allows the cap E to be raised in order that the cutter-bar and its knives may be easily reached for repair or other purposes. The cutter-bar is actuated by the usual pitma n or in any of the well known and usual ways.
By this attachment I am enabled to run a machine for any reasonable timewithout having to stop it for the purpose of oiling up.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The perforated pipe F, in combination with the cutting apparatus of a reaper or mower, said pipe being connected to a suitable oilrescrvoir, substantially as and forthe purpose set forth. v
2. The hinged cap E, carrying a perforated pipe, F, in combination with the cutting (111)? paratus of a reaper or mower, thesame being connected to an oil-reservoir by a flexible con nection, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELIAS D. ROTH.
