Description
UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrcn.
CHARLES H. ours, or SILVER-CREEK, NEW YORK.
CRUPPER-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,192, dated March 18, 1884..
' Application filed January 12, 1884. (No model.)
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. On'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing in Silver Creek, in the county of Chautauqua and State v of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grupper-Oouplings,0f which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient means for readily attaching or detaching the crupper or tail strap of a harness, all of which will be fully and clearly hereinafter shown by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front or face view. Fig. 2 is a back view, showing a separate view of the detachable portion of the device; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal central section through the device.
The body of the coupling, a, is of a fiat tubular form, provided with a plate, a, jointed to the body by a joint, 0,", made in any wellknown way. '(See Figs. 1 and 3.) It is provided with a spiral spring, a, made in the usual way, to keep the hook catch a" down in place; but aflat or other well-known spring may be used in its place for accomplishing the same result.
0 represents the connecting device. It is is secured together. The outer end of the part c is made of thin sheet metal, and is placed to one side, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to receive the strap. It is provided with holes 0 through which rivets c are passed to secure the strap thereto. The opposite end of the body is also provided with a similar part, 0 of sheet metal, having the holes (2 for riveting the strap thereto. It will be seen by this arrangement that the crapper-strap may be easily and quickly disconnected by pressing with the thumb or finger on the part 6 of the jointed plate a, and thereby raise the hook a out of the hole 0 in the tongue 0, so as to release it. It is connected by simply pushing the tongue in, which operation raises the spring-catch until the hole comes under its point, when it springs into place and holds it securely.
I claim as my invention A crupper-coupling consisting of the fiat tubular body at, having the fiat strap=connecting portion 0 and a plate and catch jointed thereto, and provided with a spring, a, in combination with the connecting-piece c, having the flat strap-connecting portion a, and a tongue, 0, having a hole, a", substantially as and for the purposes described.
