BRACELET.
SFEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,108, dated March 11, 1884. I Application filed January '24, 1884, (No model.)
My invention is an improved glove bangle.
or bracelet.
The object of the invention is to secure, by a simple and inexpensive structure, a form which may easily be enlarged to slip on over the hand and close automatically.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is' a perspective view of the bracelet. Fig. 2 shows a central longitudinal section of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the top piece. Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the top piece or clasp. Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a modified form of top piece, showing also in perspective the overlapping end of the bracelet adapted to this modification.
The main part or body of the bangle or bracelet marked A) may be of precious or plated metal, ofhard rubber, celluloid, or any suitable material which will suificiently re-- tain its elasticity. It may be plain, corrugated, or formed with any desired ornamental surface, and may be a uniform band throughout. The top or connecting piece, B, which acts as connection between the ends of the band or body of the bangle or bracelet, is also made of any suitable material, ornamented in any desired way. As shown, it is composed of a plain curved plate, with flanges b b and under plates, c 0, across from flange to flange, forming at the ends flat open sockets adapted to receive the ends of the body A. One end is closed by a stop, d, to hold one end of the 0 body; or said end may be held in any other suitable manner. This connecting-piece may be varied in formas, for example, it may be made of aflattened tubular piece, or without theilanges b b. wise. Through this is inserted a piece, f,
It has a slot, 6, running lengthwhich is fixed in the free end of the body A. Another pin, 5 is set in the piece B at the end of the slot, or in that end of B through which the free end of A moves. The pins are provided with heads ornamented by astonesetting, or many suitable ways. The elasticity of the band causes it to close, carrying the pin f to the other end of the slot, away from the stationary pin 9. To open or enlarge the bracelet, the wearer has only to place the finger or thumb upon the slot and move the pin f toward the pin g. The movement of the pin f is limited by the slot, but is sufficient to give the bracelet adequate spread.
The piece B may be modified in respect to the slot and arrangement of the ends of the body. As shown in Fig. 5, a short slot, h h,
is made on each side in line with the center of each end of A. When the band or body A is closed, the ends overlap each other the full length of the piece B and bear against suitable stops in the ends of said piece. The pins are set through the slots in the ends of the band'A, and when the band is closed the pins are at the outer ends of the slots. \Vhen the pins are brought together, both on ds are pushed back and the bracelet is enlarged. Its own elasticity returns it to the closed position. The only difierence between the modified piece and that first described is that both ends are made movable, and a slot is therefore necessarily provided for each.
I claim A bracelet or bangle consisting of an elastic band, A, slotted piece B, in combination with apin set in free end or'ends of the band, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHAR-LES R. BUGBEE.
