Patented Mar. 4, 1884.
,X ug-- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES B. ROSS, OF UNION CITY, INDIANA.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming 'part of Letters Patent N0. 294,508, dated March 4,. 1884.
Application filed July as, 1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES B. Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing at Union City, in the county of Randolph and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Post for Fences, Telegraph-Wires, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to posts or poles for fences, telegraph-wires, &c.; and its object is to provide a device possessing superior advantages in point of simplicity, inexpensiveness, durability, and general efficiency.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved post and-base. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the post proper, which comprises aperpendicular main portion, 'B, having a right-angular foot, 0, and formed with an inclined brace-arm, P, having a loop, Q, at its bottom end. Arightangular brace, R, is connected to the loop 'Q at the vertex of theangle by a bolt, S, that passes through the loop Q and a corresponding loop, T, on .the brace R, and the latter is provided witha loop, U, that encircles the main portion B, and with a right-angular foot,V, at
its lower end.
F designates the base, which comprises a bottom disk, W, on which the feet 0 and V are rested, and a top section, X, having an in construction, and can be conveniently planted, and it is very durable and strong in practice.
It will be understood that numerous modifications may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts comprising my invention ,without'departing from its spirit and scope.
I claim as my invention The combination of the wire-post', comprising a main portion and a brace portion, each portion having a right-angular foot at its lower end, the bottom section of the base, on which these feet are rested, and the removable top section of the base, having the elongated slot receiving the ends ofthe main and brace portions of the post, and rested on the horizontal portions of the right-angular feet, substantially as set forth. 1
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have heretoaffixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES B. ROSS.
