(Cl; 40-456) The object of the present invention is to provide a display holder for samples; of: wall papen, fabric, and the like, which will enable the. assembly of the individual holders into book form, and which has its primary purpose, the vision of simple andeifective means for quickly securing the. sheets. to be. displayed onto a-relatively rigid backing member, enabling ready removal and replacement of the sheets.

The characteristic of the embodiment is that the primary holding member, preferably a relatively heavy cardboard rectangle, is provided at a plurality of its margins with easily assembled spring engaging members for the margins of the display sheet, these spring members being of special form and being held by abutments provided n the heavy cardboard backing member at margins thereof. The said spring gripping members are adapted to act on opposite sides of the backing member so that when a plurality of the latter are assembled and hinged in book form, both sides of the backing member may hold display sheets.

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. l is a view in front elevation showing an assembly of the display holders, display sheets on two of the latter being exposed to view.

Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view showing the manner in which the elements of the spring gripping members are assembled with the heavy cardboard backing sheet.

Fig. 3 is a plan view, partly broken away showing the display holder hinged to a carrying bar, the display holder gripping a display sheet, and the numerals 4 indicating abutments carried by the rigid backing member.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary section through the backing member and its abutments.

Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5, Fig. 3, and somewhat enlarged, the gripping members being shown in closed position.

Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5, showing one of the gripping members held in released position.

Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 5, showing both of the gripping members in released position.

In the present embodiment it is contemplated that all four margins of the backing member will be provided with a spring display sheet gripping members, although it is obvious that in some cases only two of the gripping members need be applied to the backing sheet, as for example at opposite margins of the latter. In Fig. 3 the backing sheet is indicated as hinged to a carrying bar 1 so that the bar may be mounted in a flat carrier 2, Fig. l, with a plurality of additional backing members and display sheet gripping members as in the last named figure.

When the backing member is intended to hold display sheetsv at the opposite. sides thereof, at least one, and preferably two, grippingmembers will be appliedv to one margin, opposite. margins, or four margins ofthe hack member. I

spring gripping member, as hereinbefore designated, I mean an assembly. consisting of at least two units, one. unit being an annular springmember; and the second being a flanged stripiaotedupon by the spring member. In the. embodiment illustrated in Fig. 2, in Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive, the spring member is shown at 6. It preferably is made of metal, and approaches in form a split annulus, the split being bounded by opposed lips 6x. The gripping strip is shown at 7. It is formed with the channel at 7xx for reception of the lips 6x of a spring member 6. The inner margin of the gripping strip 7 abuts a row of outwardly projected abutments 4. This description relates to one face of the backing member 3. At the opposite face of the backing member, the second lip 6x of the spring member 6 will enter the channel 7x of a like gripping member 7 as indicated more particularly in Fig. 5 to Fig. 7 inclusive. Each gripping member preferably is formed with a flange 7x for immediate contact with the display sheet.

Fig. 5 illustrates the backing sheet with two display sheets 8 held thereon. Fig. 6 shows the lowermost gripping strip released, the display sheet at such area having been removed. A comparison between Fig. 5 and Fig. 7 will show that the gripping strip, when raised, is compelled to spread the spring member 6 against its spring tension, and comparison between Fig. 2 and Fig. 5 will show that in assembling the units shown in Fig. 5, the spring member is sprung so that it exerts a positive force upon the gripping strips 7. In other words, in said assembly the lips 6x of the spring member are faced away from each other.

-It will be noted that in the placement of one or more display sheets, upon the backing member, the appurtenant gripping strips may be easily swung upward to dead-center position as in Fig. 7, so that they will be held in such position until they are swung inwardly and are snapped down into holding engagement with the display sheet.

It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form of the elements constituted in the embodiment illustrated in the drawings without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

1. A display holder for sheets of paper, fabric, and

the like, comprising a relatively rigid backing sheet, outspring member greater than the distance between the edge of the lip of the spring member and the backing sheet, the outer end of said last named area meeting the projecting abutments carried by the backing sheet.

2. A displayholder for sheets of paper, fabric,vand the like, constructed in accordance with claim 1 in which the spring member is provided with opposed lips, in combination with gripping strips are held by the spring member at opposite faces of the backing sheet.

3. A display holder for sheets of paper, fabric, and the like, comprising a relatively rigid backing sheet, outwardly projecting abutments carried by the margins of said backing sheet and at least two'rnargins in a line extending inwardly of the edge thereof and leaving a marginal area of the backing sheet outwardly of said abutments, a semi-annular elongated spring member overlapping the backing sheet at and with respect to at least two margins thereof, and having longitudinally thereof at least one angularly related lip facing the backing sheet, a gripping strip at and with respect to at least two margins of and overlying the backing sheet and having a channel entered by said lip of the spring member, said gripping strip having an end within the spring member of the length greater than the distance between the edge of the 2,941,324. a r V r lip of the spring member and the backing sheet, the outer end of said last named area meeting the projecting abutments carried by the backing sheet.

4. A display holder for sheets of paper, fabric, and the like, comprising a relatively rigid backing sheet, a plurality of semi-annular elongated spring members overlapping the backing sheet each at a margin thereof, and each having longitudinally thereof at least one edge angularly related lip facing the backing sheet, a gripping strip overlying the backing sheet and having a channel entered by said edge lip of the spring member, said gripping strip having its end within the spring member of a length greater than the distance between the edge of the I lip of the spring member and the backing sheet and adapted to be raised in coaction with said spring memher, to a position perpendicular relative to the backing sheet, said position being a dead center retaining the gripping strip in such position.
